Penguin Boats

Bought this boat last year but still unsure of the model.  Is it a Penguin Ultimate ?  , or Huntress, or Sportsfisher ?   Its 6.560 mtrs from bow to transom. Im told the Ultimates are 7mtrs, 23 ft so not sure if they include the duck board wich takes it to seven metres.   Ive owned quite a few boats over the years, alloy, glass, and wooden. Very suprised with its sea handling for a 30 year old boat. Put it through its paces in a shitty southerly, and handles better than some of the new boats ive been on. Nice heavy hull, deep V and good in a following sea and sits on the chines well.

Just though there might be some Penguin owners on here that can help answer my question as to what model Penguin it is ?

Have found a few Penguin Ultimate 23s as comparison, the photos below this one. And have also noticed alot of the Penguins have this same type of trailer, up until they were up graded at some stage.

Cheers

Not a guru

Sat, 2016-03-12 11:53

Im not a guru but I own a penguin huntress.  To the best of my knowledge, the Phantom series are 16fters, the Huntress are 18-19fters, and the Ultimate are larger so "maybe" your boat is the "Ultimate", and quite rare these days.

 Hope that helps, abit.

Thanks Ashen, its got me baffled because all the Ultimates ive seen are around the 23ft = 7mtrs, so im not sure how they come up with 7mtrs. They must include the duck board or something.

 I've owned both a Phantom

I've owned both a Phantom and a Huntress. Great hulls. I think the ultimate was 23 footer and I only ever saw it in a walkround configuration. If this is a 21 footer not sure what it is but in that colour with a Volvo leg it's definitely a Penguin and guaranteed to be a great hull in the water. Old Julius knew how to build a boat, that's for sure.

I think there was also a Penguin Striker as well but I am thinking that was larger still, maybe 26' - I recall seeing one at his shop in Maddington many years ago.

I've fished out of an ultimate cabin and sure it was a little bigger than that. There is also the contender which is the 23 with a flybridge.

Hi Dodgy, Good info, i would like to run a tape measure along an ultimate to see what it actualy measures. I know some boats measure differant to what the manufacturer says it is.I came accross a boat in a sales yard once that they had included the bow sprit and duck board in the hull length, can be very miss leading when they price a hull on its length.

If that was you heading back into pt peron as I was headed out this morning I'm happy to say it's definitely not an Ultimate.

Dont think so Nath, i found a couple of other Ultimates and the measurements, strakes and bow entry were all identical, even the transom and bungs, and thickness were the same. Distance from keel to Chines were the same too, and the deadrise.

Cheers
