When i lived in hedland.

When I lived in hedand for a couple of years back in 98 I used to regularly witness mass fish kills.  Some times hundreds of kilos of fish would perish if they didnt get out of the creeks quick enough on hot days with the tide going out. I used to park up at creek mouths on low tide waiting for the start of the run in tide. They would simply turn belly up and the float and the gulls and pelicans would have a feast. Mullet and small bait fish mostly.  Six mile creek in hedland  this happened regularly. In karratha one day I was fishing nickol river rock bar on a hot day in summer on low tide. Hooked a 80cm plus barra did one jump and then I had dead weight.  Reeled it in and was stone cold dead with gills flared. I suspect the water was very low in oxygen.

About 3 weeks ago in Hedland at low tide there were thousands upon thousands of dead baitfish in rock pools but some of the pools still had live fish (not too many fish) pretty much put it down to low oxygen levels as stated above, collected a few to feed my pet jack, he is still trucking along
