Pinnaroo Point
Submitted by Wet Dreams on Wed, 2009-03-11 15:20
Fished Pinnaroo point last friday nite and again lastnite with some good results. friday nite caught quite a few herring , at one point landed 5 in 5mins..absolute feeding frenzy. and lastnite caught a few herring again and a cracker of a sand whiting..went 31cm and was thick as they come through the body..was caught 1m out from the shore. put up a good little fight on the bream gear. plenty of baitfish around in the shallows too. going to be fishing this spot quite alot now at night..anyone fish there regularly?
Sam

I was there last friday night,
but this was the first time i fished from the beach at night. The wind did not help me and i think the gear i had was not suited to the conditions on the day. I was using squid for bait i dont know if this is the best for herring or not. I will most probably try this friday again. I hope the wind stays away, any advice on the bail i should use it im trying for herring and whiting?
Thanks

We were catching some good tailor down that way
a month or so ago, but I think they might have moved on.
Ganged, try some prawn for the whitings iof you are haveing no luck with the squid. The herring will take it as well. Just make sure your hooks aren't too big.

Pinnaroo point
Third carpark north of hillarys boat harbour .Good spot for kids and old people. Its not to deep ,so you can drag them out when they fall in ,without getting too wet yourselfSome good fish taken from there though .
Cheers Uncle Stu

@ Wet Dreams, no was by myself
way on the left. Did no planning at all just got the gear i coud see and got into the car. Next time i know to bring a torch and different types of bait. I tried using some pike i caught the week before as bait but it was just falling to pieces are there any tricks to using frozen fish as bait or is it just the type of fish ( good for bait and not good for bait)?
thanks

Ganged If want to try a punt on catching some bigger
herring try and find the really small sets of ganged hooks and try using a white bait or a blue bait.

It depends on the wind really mate
I always believe in using the smallest weight possible.
I would try a small star sinker on a surf paternoster and if your line isn't getting blown around too much stick it, or visa versa, upgrade in size. You want to be able to have a reasonably tight line, so whatever sinker size allows to achieve that - go with it.
You may also need to upsize if you are finding it hard to get any distance with your cast, but remember that the herring may come in pretty close looking for food.
If you are fishing at Pinarroo at night try the area where the lights from the carpark shine on the water. The fish seem to be quite active in there. Also don't forget some burley.
PS You may be able to get ox heart at your local specialist butcher, and occassionally you might find it in the bigger supermarkets.

Pinnaroo point
Went down to the point tonight.Alot of herring on the bite!Nothing big happening. You need a slight s/wester for tailor down there. When its calm its stingray city!!!I know! they dont call me the stingray queen for nothing. But I found a solution,Corks are marvelous things.Last time I seen a mulloway caught there was about ten years ago 22kg by a 14 year old.But caught a few gummy sharks recently.
