Please help with locations for trouts and redfins

 Hi guys,

im madly inlove with river fishing and love to catch a trout or redfins but really having triuble to find the place to catch them especially when people told me to go to honeymoon pool. Been driving to there but found nothing but a beautiful camping sites with a river running at the back of it! Thought it was a lovely place to catch a redfin or two but see no fish there!

And with wellington dam for trouts, i have no idea where to cast a line! I drove down to wellington dam but all i see is a massive dam with no structures or weed bed along the shore line but tried to throw the lines in anyway but have nothing! Is there a track to get to a place where u can catch some trout there at dam or u can catch them any where in the dam? Please give me some directions of how to get to it so i can have a try to catch these fish!

I also heard people said about the collie river below the dam that u can catch these fish but what road is it on and how do u get there?

any informations or advise would really be greatly appreciated guys!

Harvey dam is a good spot

Mon, 2013-07-15 17:54

Harvey dam is a good spot for both if you are just starting out and shore based. Late arvos or early mornings on the dams just look for rising fish. The Murray river is a great spot for Redfin and the odd trout. Just work the snags for Redfin and the fast water for trout. If you really want to get stuck into the trout you can't go past pemeberton.

 Head to pemberton mate it's

Mon, 2013-07-15 20:58

Head to pemberton mate it's got everything your after. There's plenty of trout in the warren river & it's also just about the best Redfin fishery in the state. From memory there's no closed season for trout on the warren but that is only from memory so please check the regs before you head down there. Lefroy Brook is at pemberton to & many regard it as the best trout fishing in wa. Accessing lefroy can be hard work because there's lots of scrub & prickles but the rewards are worth a few scratches & a bit of bush bashing. I think there is a closed season on the lefroy so check that also. Big brook dam is just outside of pemberton & is also a pretty decent spot to catch a few trout or reddies. A 4x4 is handy down there but there's still plenty of good spots you can get into in a 2wd & a bit of walking. Get a couple of good maps of the area (I use 1:50,000 topographical maps from DEC) & you will soon find plenty of places to explore.

Thanks cityflicker for the infos! Ive heard of warren river and drove down to heartbreak trail and found a river along the trail as we drive deep and long into the trail! Is that the warren river? It looks very nice so we dropped a few lines in but have no action! Was i at the warren river? Cos i heard a lot of good reviews about this river and love to have a go at fishing there! If tht wasnt the warren river, how do you get there and what road is it off?

Yes that's the Warren. Those really easy to get to spots don't produce too many fish as they get hit very hard. You'll do much better if you go to one of those carparks down there & then go for a hike along the path that follows the river to find some water that hasn't seen so many lines. Your best option is to take a kayak or canoe down & go for a paddle exploring along the way. I'll send you a pm with some more detailed info.

Hey sweeny I go up the Wellington Dam/ Collie river all the time, thinking of heading up tomorrow morning weather permitting. You'll find if you walk the banks of the dam in places you will find drop offs with deep sections and some submerged rocks/ structure. Ive only ever got Redfin inside the dam and they can be quite hard to come by in Winter when everything cools down, I get more from September-march when the water starts warming/clearing up. The river below the dam around Honeymoon pool is the spot for trout been going up there the past few days and seeing them but they have shut off the Water valve at the base of the dam for the moment so its hard to find pools deep enough without spooking fish! Small hard bodied lures like Halco rmg and small spinners work best for me up there. Good luck give us a message If theres any more questions.
