Pledge to save on parking $$
Submitted by Grumpysmurf on Wed, 2013-11-06 11:49
My local and very underused ramp has now decided charge for parking which pisses me off (as it is an underused ramp). So, I am making a pledge, and asking all of us to do the same.
If your parking ticket has extra time on it after you come back, put the ticket in the machine's slot so that the next person may use it and save.

Why not all of them?
I have done so at Freo's Leeuwin ramp and the one I refer to is Coode St, South Perth.

Parking fine
I have been given a ticket at Hillary's after a guy gave me his ticket at the ramp. I know I shouldn't have taken it but he passed it to me and I didn't think too long about it. $60 later and I won't do that again.

I ain't a lawer and its not Hilarys, but I looked up South Perth's parking bylaws and nothing was stated about using other people's ticket.

I wondered about the
I wondered about the legalities of doing this, if the council could prove you launched without paying they would be able to fine you, presuming they could prove the ticket you produced in court was not payed for by you! Car parks are the same.
If they don't see you swap tickets one would assume you wouldn't have a problem - some ramps may have CCTV they could produce

Fair point
but the ranger or whoever checks tickets isn't going to review CCTV footage of every ticket on every dash
incase the ticket was passed on
i reckon keep passing tickets on, ramp prices are ridiculous and i dont even pay the prices because of living in the country

they could still potentially
they could still potentially produce the CCTV as proof if you took it to court. I didn't say I disagreed with doing this (I actually gave someone my ticket once and probably used someones else's once too if I recall correctly), just that if you were seen doing it you could be fined.
The reason they have fees for some ramps is to be able to provide the facility so from a legal sense why should someone not pay and use the facility every one else is paying for when they buy a ticket.

the idea is to put the ticket
the idea is to put the ticket in a brown paper bag, sunnies on, pull hat down and collar up and crawl between the cars out of sight of cameras.
Glad to have such a great facility as Batavia Marina with unlimited free parking and space!

My take
I thought on public ramps payed for by councils and govt ( therefor tax payers) they dont charge you for actually launching the boat , only for parking.
I have heard of people whom live very close , launching, then beaching out the way, and then driving a few hundred metres home, therefor not paying for parking.
However on some ramps payed for and maintained by delevopers and other indiviuals ( mindarie?) , they can charge you for launching, therefor ticket handing
on could be seen as a wrong doing. ( total nit picking b;;;;t but! )
As I have said on here before , with the amount boaties already contribute, any fee , launching or parking on a govt supplied ( state or local council) ramp
is a total ripoff in my book, as do you see people paying a fee every time they use a local oval ( which costs money to maintain) or do you see people
paying a fee to use a govt supplied and payed for cycle path. Course not , there would be a outcry.
over to you!

that is a rip off
if you leave at 7pm and return after midnight you would have to pay two days for less than 12 hours.

Ticket
I had to get the old man from a hospital in the city and someone was kind enough to give me their ticket as I parked. When I got the old boy I gave mine to a lady at the machine.
Pay it forward I say!
Bit of a shame that you can get fined for it. If a car stayed there for the next few hours or my car what's the difference the time was paid for?
Cheers

Everyone is suposedly
Everyone is suposedly required to pay a fee "for your use of the facility" so if you used someones elses ticket your not paying what everyone else is required to pay and why should you be any different. No problem from me just have a looksee round for "white dual cab utes" before doing it!!

I have never done it, or even thought about it
But it is a interesting topic.
I would have thought that when you bought a ticket you pay for the time to use a space. If I paid for say 2hrs but only use 30minutes, the other 1.5hrs is still legally paid for.
I have never looked closely at a ticket to see if there is a statement on it saying "not transferable".
If it states that on the ticket then I do feel there is an issue legally for prosecution and would be carefull about accepting a ticket and/or passing one on. My closest ramp is the Parkridge Ramp only 600m away and is free. I hope for years to come but my 5.4m alli is about the maximum that can be launched there without tide etc issues.

I always stick my ticket back
I always stick my ticket back in the machine at leeuwin as it is either 4 hours minimum or 24 hrs and a nice hefty $12-00 for the honour!
Parking fees go to the councils as the ramps are actually paid for and maintained by the DoT.
If everyone does this it will save a few a bit of pain every now and then and there is nothing like having a little win every now and then.
