Port Kennedy Shark Attack
Submitted by wrassinator on Sat, 2008-12-27 09:05
RIP the poor unlucky bugger that was attacked at Port Kennedy this morning. Nothing like a shark attack to get the media frothing, not to mention the hundreds of gawkers up on the lookout off Cote D'Zure.

reports!
Yeh thats very sad for sure RIP. With all the sittings/reports of GW sharks "slightly offshore" of late i was only thinking last week how long would it take for one to come to the beaches and if so thats a high risk area!

Yep that's for sure. There was a small one sighted just off this beach at the tire wreck about 2 months back. It buzzed a snapper boat burley trail....
Aparantly, this thing is still hanging round. Wonder if DoF will give shoot to kill order?!?!

I think the small one could
I think the small one could be the local resident GW,,only 10 foot long and hangs around Penguin, Seal ,garden and Kwinana mussel farm
(and maybe the tire reef ?)
I was thinking this one could be the one that had a go at the divers a fortnight ago at 5 fathom,,,,,,,,but i guess theres lots of them about being a protected spieces that they are,,,

Yeh definately mate. I
Yeh definately mate. I have surfed for years, had close brushes and know the risks myself. No point blaming an animal going about it's daily business of survival. This guys was just, really, really unlucky.

Fell sorry for the blokes
Fell sorry for the blokes family but at the end of the day when people enter the water thats the risk that they take,it is not our domain but the domain of the sharks and with the snapper schools still around the larger preditors will come in for a feed and when they see scuba,or free divers splashing around to them its a fish /seal in distress or a easy meal I had the boat out last week and was buzzed by a couple of large sharks and when you see the size of some of them they would make short work of someone if they fell overboard, with all this coverage on the snapper bans maybe what they should be doing is also putting up signs at ramps and beach's waring that there are large aggregating schools of fish spawning which in course will bring in the sharks
Life is short so live it fast

Shark Attack
This puts a damper on my thoughts of doing a bit of snorkling, I was thinking of checking out some inshore reefs for Crays but might just stick with the pots, for now anyway - our thoughts go out to the families of the deceased its a terrible thing to happen no matter what time of year it is.
