Power Cable Fittings for Electric Reel
Submitted by Belly Fish on Sat, 2014-03-08 20:58
I'm keen to ditch the alligator clips on the power cables for my electric reels. I'm thinking of running a cable from the battery under the gunwale, then installing three take-off points equally along the side.
I'm assuming this is what quite a few anglers have done, my question is can anyone recommend good quality, salt resistant fittings for the job and where to get them from?
Thanks

Deutsch Connectors
Get these fitted with a bit of electrical grease and you'll never have a problem

plenty to choose from plastic or brass

only thing is if you change to a plug instead of clips is your stuck on only using your reel on your boat
also make sure you have your outlets on a switch so they can be turned off when not in use ,this will help them last longer

Anderson plugs
The "Anderson " style of plugs are fairly common in the 4wd/ camping / outdoor scene and come in a variety of sizes to suit cable diameters . They have a tough plastic body with brass connections but as with a salt water environment not much is foolproof for corrosion so a good clean and grease is a must for longevity .

I would be using anderson
I would be using anderson plugs if it take a bit of current. Small one is good for 50amps.

plugs and clips
dont forget to make a spare cable with clips to use on other boats or as a back up. I've got a few made up in my fourby for fridges, compressor and chargers.
