New propeller
Hi Ben
Are you looking for a better quality prop or something that's sized to better suit your outboard?
Mercury, like all outboard manufacturers, publish tables with recommended propellers to suit their outboards, so they perform within their optimum rev range. Check this out for starters: http://www.mercurymarine.com/propellers/prop-selector/#
This might throw up more than 1 result, but if you know the optimum rev range for your engine, then you can best select the prop to match your requirements. Checking your engine specs should tell you the optimum rev range....just google it.
When we got the 590 Trailblazer, the 125 Optimax was fitted with a 16" pitch prop. The engine revved really quickly and the boat sure got up and boogied, but it revved past 6000 so we swapped it for an 18" pitch and now it runs out at 5600...right in the optimum range for this engine.
Not wanting to head to Coral Bay without a spare, I bought a 17" pitch ali one so now I've got a spare, plus I've got a little bit more low down acceleration, which is what we were looking for when we go waterskiing.
If you're looking to buy a prop, check out the guys at Just Propellers in Osborne Park...really friendly and helpful and they were cheaper than the boat dealers.
Hope this helps.
