Quick Hutt River Report

Spent the weekend on the beach near the Hutt River mouth and found Tailor to 75cm on the bite from lunchtime until sundown. Taken on mulies and scalies and even got a couple on surf poppers after reading about them on FW. A first! After dark the beasties moved in. 10 or so runs before 11pm for zero return. Most were obviously very large sharks but a couple were probably Mulloway as they dropped the Tailor fillet baits undamaged.

Cheers

Haven't been up that way for a while might have to plan another trip soon

your pretty game swaging it in tyre tracks on the beach wouldn't want some drunken yahoo going for a spin in the middle of the night

Beach was heaps wider than it looks - prob another 10 car widths this side of the swags. Plus it is a very quiet stretch of beach. The tyre tracks were ours from earlier drive up and down the beach.

G'day mate thanks for the report. Me and 2 mates fished about 200m south of you guys Friday and Saturday night we were in the grey colorado ute. It's funny we were talking about the trip yesterday and were wishing we stopped to see how you guys went especially through the day. We had similar luck 14 tailor landed up to 60 cm 2 mullys around 60 and hammered by big sharks spewing we couldn't get one in.

Curt, yep I remember your truck going back and forth a couple of times. Should have said g'day we would have bought you a beer! On Friday the Tailor were thick for us from 1.00pm onwards and we both easily bagged out to provide bait for the evening monsters, plus a few dart with one over 2kg. Three or 4 Tailor were over 65cm with our biggest being 75cm. Great fun! On Saturday they weren't quite as big but we bagged out again to provide bait again and to take a couple home for a feed. You did well to score the Mullis. I'm 100% sure we hooked three very weighty ones but they were just losing interest and dropping the baits during the run. We actually saw one of the sharks at about 5.30pm on friday after my mate set the hooks. It looked about 3 metres as it screemed along the waves before turning for Africa. Next time...
