Quick morning fish off Groote!
Well the eastlies are back in the morning at the moment, so it was time to head out for a fish. Had to go on a solo fish today,as Claire is over racking up the cc in Darwin at the moment. Headed about 6 mile from the ramp, in search for some new ground. I like going fishing by ones self sometimes, as its just great cruzing around with the tunes playing, watching the sounder for something special.
Being a full moon at the moment i was expecting the current to be pretty bad, but the current and wind were working against each other, which made for a good drift speed. Found some nice ground in 20m, blue flares coming up off the highest peaks. I ran a few drifts, but nothing was biting on squid. I had some mulies there that i have carted out the last couple of trips, and decided to give them a try. Well what do you know bites galore ! Pulled some saddletail off this spot, and then left it on the bite for another day.
Then headed in close to Conexion island, in a around 10m of water.Lots of bolders and weed showing on the sounder. Been told by a local here, that coral trout like this sort of ground here, so i thought i would give it a try. After drifting for a couple of minutes, i had a good run and soon a nice coral trout was in the ice box. Drifted a bit further to only pick up a decent sized fingermark and another saddletail.
Being happy with what i had caught, i then threw the lures over and trawled back to the ramp....where are the bloody mackies!

Nice selection there wade,
Nice selection there wade, great fish! Should be getting a few macks up there soon. We had some awesome days off Elcho with macks smashing bait schools as far as you could see, free jumping everywhere. Seen any tuna schools around up there yet?

Cheers mate! No tuna yet, not many birds working out there today. The only schools working birds at the moment are queenfish. Hopefully not far away.

Well done Wade. Some quality fish there. Looks like you are starting to get it sorted up there.
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.

Didnt
Didnt make it over there yesterday till. You have to trawl thru a heap of bombies. Would be to hard to stop one, and not run the boat into something as the current is wild over there. Maybe next sunday.
