RecFishWest supports Commercial Netters!!!!

I am still wondering why, like many people i suspect we are allowing commercial netters to rape and pillage our fish stocks.

Indiscriminately taking mainly cat one fish in all sizes.

When is recfishwest going to do something about it, still waiting for an answer.

I think recfishwest is only concerned about keeping the organization financial and all keeping

their jobs.

But everyone is intitled to their opinions.

Look forward to their reply.

Something needs to be done.
Do the pros have limits of what they can take a year or are they free to take what they want?

Commercial netting rules - who decides?

Wed, 2008-04-23 19:18

Stoinka

I posted an answer on Saturday. You've raised this topic again. The answer is the same.

Recfishwest doesn't make the commercial rules. Department of Fisheries and the Minister for Fisheries make those rules.

The Recfishwest draft on recreational fishing changes http://www.recfishwest.org.au/DraftSubDemersalFishingFMP228.htm says:-

Quote:
Recfishwest recognizes that there have been significant reforms of most sectors of the commercial fishing industry through the Wetfish Review, although concerns still remain over the potential impact of demersal gill net fishing in the West Coast bioregion.

Many recreational fishers are extremely concerned that the commercial fishing industry will not be subject to closures. While we accept the management reforms that were undertaken for commercial wetliners will have an impact when controls actually come into force in 2009, there is nothing to stop commercial operators from moving onto inshore reefs near population centres during the closed season. This would mean that the benefits to recreational fishing from accepting the conservative management would be offset. This will, require careful monitoring.

If enough people will support what Recfishwest says by putting in their own comments and complaining a lot about the problems with commercial fishing management, then the Minister and Fisheries Dept might take notice.

Commercial netting is covered in that RFW draft, has been discussed a lot between the Minister and Recfishwest and the Department and they all know what those paragraphs mean and how important proper management of commercial fishing is to recreational fishermen.

If anyone wants to criticise Recfishwest for not getting changes to commercial fishing rules, then reread all the above.

Despite RFW not making the commercial fishing rules, RFW has made lots more comments on commercial fishing - see the Recfishwest submissions page http://www.recfishwest.org.au/Submissions.htm

Is RECFISHWEST on the Same Planet

Wed, 2008-04-23 19:32

So this quote below, from which you have posted, highlights to every person with a bit of intelligence that their is concerns over the effect gill netting is having on our fish stocks.

Well blow me down, is Recfishwest on the same planet.

All commercial gill net fishing should be stopped NOW. Not some time in 2009.

So Recfishwest the challenge is to you, if your organisation is fair dinkum, cut out all the propoganda and stop gill net fishing NOW.

Recfishwest recognizes that there have been significant reforms of most sectors of the commercial fishing industry through the Wetfish Review, although concerns still remain over the potential impact of demersal gill net fishing in the West Coast bioregion.

The quote below:Well i will support RECFISHWEST when they stop beavering around in the background and STOP the killing of our fish stocksby gill net fishing.

If enough people will support what Recfishwest says by putting in their own comments and complaining a lot about the problems with commercial fishing management, then the Minister and Fisheries Dept might take notice.

Apathy will destroy our fish stocks

To all the members of this sight please voice your opinion on gill netting for fish.

Recfishwest would like your view on this matter.

If you have supported them fianancially i would be asking why our fish stocks are being destroyed by commercial gill netters.

Look forward to no apathy.

A bit random?

Strange post this one!!

Would suggest you follow Terry's advice re who to contact.

Demersal gillnetting has been removed from the metro area now - alot of that has been because of years of steady pressure from people like RFW (and others). Will take a few years to see the effects but I think they will be there.

IMPO I dont like demersal gillnetting - its not a nice practice and there are legitimate concerns with it I think - so go get stuck into em!!

Just direct it at the right people dude!!

Hang on

Thu, 2008-04-24 07:12

Now before everybody pipes up without thinking there does need to be some commercial fishing line or nets otherwise there would be NO fish on the fish markets AT ALL
Not that I buy fish that often but not everybody has the means to go and catch their own although where they do it and by how much is important but i doubt line fishing would be able to support the demand for fish in the shops you cant just expect commercial fishers to go away otherwise it would make fish a food for the recreational angler only.

To all the virgins..............Thanks for nothing!
