Reel Advice

Hi Guys,
I am looking at upgrading some of my gear from the standard Penn Spinfisher rod reel combos and am after some advice as to what would best suit me.
I am looking for a bit of an all round offshore spinning reel to take up north as well as to use around Mandurah and the metro area.
Up north I will be using the reel for a variety of different fishing from bottom bouncing up to 100m, casting at tuna schools etc to chasing sambos at home as well as dhus out wide.
I don't want to go the whole hog and pay for a stella or saltiga and am looking more in the price range of $400 - $600. Has anybody used the Shimano Biomaster or Saragosa Reels? If so, what are your thoughts?
Any advice about reels and sizes would be appreciated!

Yeh mate i used a Shimano
Yeh mate i used a Shimano Saragosa for quite a few years. The newer ones are even better. I fished my 8000 in 100m no worries. Landed dhues macks reds pinks sambos sharks etc etc. I have now switched back to Talica10 as i prefer OH.
As for casting at Tuna i use a smaller outfit, the 8000 gosa didnt cast that well for me ( was on a t curve with 30lb tufline so that was part of the problem)
f you want spin the Saragosa is great. if your want OH i can reccomend the Talica! You won't be dissapointed.

Got a sw20000 and a older model 5000f gosa. use the older 5000f for everything Great reel. I use the sw 20000 for all the silly stuff like stirring up big sambos sharks etc. I reckon the 6000sw would do exactly what your after maybe 50lb braid no heavier. Or hit up vinesh for his 8000![](http://fishwrecked.com/sites/all/libraries/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/wink_smile.gif)

I have a saragosa 6000sw and
I have a saragosa 6000sw and they're a solid reel. It's now my backup 30lb reel for the boat, but I also use it to cast slices etc for tailor.
But, if your budget can stretch to around $650 (or less second hand) get yourself either a 4000 or 5000 catalina. I have both and the difference between the gosa and the catalina is huge. As has been said on here a few times, read Alan Hawk's review on the catalina to see just how much of a saltiga you get for almost half the price.

Hey mate,+1 for the new SW
Hey mate,
+1 for the new SW Saragosas, I've seen them in action and they are a brute of a reel.
As far as size goes, a 6000SW will hold 300m of PE3 (30lb) braid and a 10000 will hold 300m of PE5 (50lb braid). If you wanted a general purpose outfit the 10000 will skull drag anything metro perth bar massive sharks and rays but it won't cast as well as a 6k would with the lighter stuff. With the 6k you have more than enough power to handle all your demersal species + top water mac's and queenies up north and it'll cast smaller stickbaits and slices with ease.
If you wanted to spend a little more, the Catalinas are the go. They have the internals of a 2010 Saltiga bar a few extra bearings. For the price they are an awesome reel.
We currently have stocks of all the Saragosa SW models + the 5000 Catalina, if you come past just remember to mention you are from FW so that we can give you the discount!
Cheers

reel advice
I have a Saragossa 5000 with 30lb and a 10000 with 50lb and rate them both highly. I upgraded from Penn spinfishers and the gossas are another class altogether but the Penns are great for the price.

Thanks a lot for your help
Thanks a lot for your help everybody!
As I am in Mandurah I swung by the new tackleworld store to have a look at some reels yesterday afternoon and then on the BCF just down the road.
It was just my luck that BCF had 15% off all reels for 2 days only and I picked up a saragosa 10000 SW for $319 which I think was a pretty fair price!
I am thinking about swinging back past after work today as they also have 25% off rods for 2 days as well and maybe picking up a Terez blank to match!
