Replacing trebles with singles

Hi All ,

Just looking at my lures and thinking that i need to replace quite a few Treble hooks on my mackie lures (halco, rapala, yozuri)

and am thinking should i go singles ?

and if so what sizes ?

And what brand ?

Most of my lures are 150-180mm as they are casting lures for steep point.

Thanks in advance

I picked up a heap of all sizes from Singapore recently !!

changed out all the trebles that looked dodgy .. Can't remember sizes exactly but I think I went slightly bigger than the trebles that where on originally !!!

brands where OWNER and CULTIVA.  But I'm pretty sure that only the reputable  manufacturers make the "singles" for lures!!

Also a good idea to change out the split rings aswell IMO !!

I'm also intrested in this, I heard some people put 2 singles on opposing eachother. Might have to give it a try.

That's called a baker rig. If you do a search you will find info on how to rig them.

Decoy Seargent Jigging Singles. Inline eyes make them perfect for lures.

Something around the 6/0 size.

Does anyone use (if you can get them big enough) w jooks.for the bigger lures? I have changed to some 2/0 evolution double hooks on some of my smaller lures an havent lost a tailor yet, best bit is no split rings required, they just slip on so easy to change

Decoy Singles on all my bigger tuna lures. Generally belly hook facing down and rear one facing up (for me). Sometimes only run the belly hook with no rear hook, lure seems to handle better with a wider wobble like this No rear hook adding drag) and haven't noticed much diff in hook-ups.

Decoy Seargent Singles are great as they are in line hooks.

If you are casting stickbaits, I have had success with Owner Jigging Singles - they are more of J-hook, I tried to see if it works and caught some big sharkies on Rapala Subwalk (60g+) with them. They are also in-line hook, so sits well with the lure. The hook are thick gauge but super sharp, as with all Owner hooks.

Bought up big in singapore too.  4/0 and 5/0.  Got some smaller ones as well for my smaller lures.  Rig the bottom one pointing down and the back one pointing up.
