REPORT ON FADS
Yesterday in anticipation of making the best of the good forecasted weather, we decided to head to the FADS to see for ourselves if the water up temperature was warm enough for Dollies. The water temperature at the back of Garden Island was between 19.7 and 20.2 degrees in about 25-35m of water. As we headed west to the Furuno, PGFC and the new Recfishwest fads (could not find the surface fad at 32 00 938S 115 13 886 E) the water temp decreased into the upper 17 degrees. This was was not a good start to long travel from Rocko.
Prior to departing BOM surface temperature indicated the water would be between 20-22 degrees, this was not the case.
We done the usual trawling with "Jub Jubs" and live baits, but nothing. After a good effort we decide to bottom bounce closer to Rocko as the weather was gonna turn as the day progressed. We were fortunate enough to pick up a 4.5kg Baladie and the biggest KGW I've ever seen.
There were a few other boats looking for Dollies but we never saw anyone go away?... The good news is there are alot of Tuna around.
anyone else have any luck with Palagics????
ALL THE BEST TO EVERYONE FOR 2015.

Water temp
We spent a bit of time yesterday trolling along the trench, we recorded a constant water temp of 20.5 -20.7 being the warmest at the southern end, very quiet on the activity front :-(

Southerly current over the
Southerly current over the past few weeks means it is gonna be a slow start, no point IMO until the northerly current pushes in closer.
Plenty of mid water tuna shows in the 40's around Rotto, too much weed around for me to be bothered trolling for more than 5 minutes though. Water temps 20 degrees, OK for YFT, not much else though.

Heaps of southern bluefin
Heaps of southern bluefin south of Rotto, good numbers of fish and seemed to be widespread so a pretty good chance of bumping into them

Sub-surface
Couta,
the FAD at the position you gave is a sub-surface fad, so you won't find anything in the surface. It's about 25m below the surface I believe

Recfishwest fads
Hi Matt
the positions given on their site has one on the surface at the above location and the second as you say 23m under the surface at 32 03 108S and 115 13 315E. They may have in error got the naming convention the wrong way around. If anyone heads out there feedback would be greatly appreciated.
