Road North
Submitted by Deckie on Mon, 2020-06-22 09:29
Hi folks. Does anyone have any info on the roads north to Dongara.
I have heard there are road works on both the Indian Ocean road and Brand Highway.
We are heading up there in a few weeks and contemplating taking Brand Highway to avoid all the impatient idiots that use the coast road.
Can you tell me/us, which road has the least works going on and if the brand is a better choice.
Thanks again in advance for your help.
Cheers.

Same.
May see you up there, heading off on the 2nd july for ten days for our annual trip. Hope to get ahead of the crowd. Be safe driving.

There are only works on
There are only works on Indian Ocean drive around Moore river to Seabird, clear after that pretty well. They are putting the finishing touches on the Lancelin turn off. Early morning run and you are sweet.

Indian Ocean Drive Ok
Used Indian Oean Drive a few times recently, with last trip 2 weeks ago. Yes, some roadworks between Guilderton and Lancelin. Adds about 5 mins to the trip. No overseas tourists has made a big difference to the number of stupid things you would otherwise see. Even the long weekend was fine; no issues at all.

Brand Highway
Last week there were road works for about 6km just north of Regans Ford on the Brand Hwy. It was 80kms per hour with two short work zones controlled by flagmen. My preference would be the Brand. Accessing the Brand from Tonkin Hwy is also now a bonus.

Caravans
Another yes for Brand Highway, dozens of caravans coming through and they prefer Indian ocean drive for the views so you will get the better run through.

Don’t go brand
Just came back other day from gero on brand . Absolutely shocking . Went coast road on way up easy . Add 1.5 hrs extra on drive if you go brand . 60 zones /40 zones everywhere closer you get to Perth even more of a nightmare
