Running Waters Video

Here is a video I shot a couple of weeks ago at a amazing spring fed water hole called Running Waters. It's located a couple of hours south east of Marble Bar and is surrounded by massive paperbark trees. Some people say that living in a pilbara mining town is boring. I rekon that if they got out there and explored that might actually enjoy the place.

Can anyone identify the fish in the second clip?

Enjoy

Paul

Great clip there Paul!! Got any details on what you did it with? In the second part how did you get the moving shots with out looking like you were walking through the bush? Great little spot!

I was thinking the same

I was thinking the same thing! Could be one of those glydecam things but I'll be impressed if it was just a regular tripod!

Thanks gents. I filmed it all

Thanks gents.

I filmed it all with a Canon 7D. The walking shots are with an 11-16mm (ultrawide) lens and the rest was filmed on Canon's 17-55mm lens. Beau is right, I have a glidecam which is what I used for the walking shots. I am still learning how to use the thing properly so some shots are wobbly. Pretty cool piece of kit when you get the hang of it.

Cracker mate, I was there a couple of weekends ago. Nice spot!! Not sure if you have had much of a look around but there plenty more good spots heading towards nullagine.

Have to tee up a trip together.

Chris, we did the Skull

Wed, 2012-06-06 17:35

Chris, we did the Skull Springs to Nullagine track on the Sunday, we didn't quite realise how long it actually was. There sure is some amazing scenery in there along that track. I ripped the side step off in Skull srings driving up to that old mine site further along the track and had the bonnet disappear under a 'puddle'. There sure is alot of exploring to be done around those parts.

Thats great !

The glidecam works a treat !
Assuming it was also used for the footage inside the 4WD (0:40 - 1:00 mark) ?

You are joking aren't you

You are joking aren't you Kane? I had the girlfriend holding the camera for that bit, she did well to hold it that steady.

Not joking at all

Wed, 2012-06-06 18:04

Not joking at all....
Given the terrain, the footage looked very stable !

I would have expected handholding the camera while being bounced around like that would have resulted in almost non-viewable footage. Full marks to your GF !

Out of curiosity, what type of glidecam/steadycam are you using ?

We were gonna do the gorge in

Wed, 2012-06-06 18:27

We were gonna do the gorge in the first part of the vid on the long weekend, but sick kids put paid to that. Will probably be next hols now, not too long away :-)

Excellent work on the vid, it really does remind me of how much I love the Pilbara when I see stuff like that.

Cheers

Wed, 2012-06-06 18:31

We went there about 20 years ago-when my wife used to teach out at Jigalong Community.

Magic memories of a really magic spot- we deffinitely are inspired to head back there again!

Thanks !

 Darrin, Jigalong must have

Wed, 2012-06-06 22:17

Darrin, Jigalong must have been an interesting place to spend some time at. We are looking into teaching in a community in the next few years. Fingers crossed we get somewhere on the coast.

Kane, I have a Glidecam HD 4000. I have a friend who films spectacular wedding films using SLR's in Perth and I got it off him. For what I do the HD 2000 probably would have been more suited. For the rest of my handheld shooting I made a rig that attaches to the bottom of the camera and has handles either side of the camera. That bit of extra width with the hands makes a huge difference.

Mullows, we had never been to Calamina gorge before and we drove in there in the dark and set up camp. Waking up in the morning to that massive rockface and huge water hole was a spin out.

What the best way to get out there?

Fri, 2012-06-15 16:33

We are in Wickham and get our 4 days off. That looks like an awsome spot to go for a few days. Any tips on finding it? I had a bit of a look on google maps but you cant tell if the waters always in some of those creeks.

 Braxi, We drove to Marble

Thu, 2012-06-21 23:06

 Braxi,

We drove to Marble Bar and took the left turn down along the telfer track. Carrawine gorge is off that road, it is signposted. Its about 10k's off the bitumen and you camp on the massive riverbank below the rockface. From there you head further towards Telfer on the bitumen and turn right onto the Woodie Woodie mine site road and its 4-5 km's from that turnoff on your left. I have got tracknotes that takes you right to the spot. Send me your email and I will fax it through.

Jono, I don't know how far

Jono, I don't know how far away it is. It's 5km's down the Woodie Woodie mine road turnoff if that helps you at all.
