Davy If you are heading down south the salmon appear to be
Anywhere and everywhere from Augusta to Dunsborough. Popular spots would be Hamelin Bay, Smiths Beach, Yallingup and Bunkers Bay.
If you are new to throwing lures at salmon you are pretty better sticking to a halco twisty or richter poppers or both.
If you are using bait, mulies or fresh whiting or herring fillets work well. You would normally use a surf paternoster as a rig.
If you can get hold of one, a surf popper rig can be dynamite on salmon.
You will need a good solid spin outfit. Probably something from 9 foot to 12 foot (depending on the conditions and where you are fishing) for a rod and any spinning reel from a 4000 size upwards. 20 lb braid with a good solid mono leader of 30 to 40 lbs should be sufficient.
One of the secrets is to have a good pair of polarised sunglasses so that you can try and spot the schools of salmon coming.
Most importantly, treat the other fishermen or women with respect. Don't go running up to where someone is cathcing fish and start casting over them. Hopefully other anglers will show you similar respect.
And if you do see someone having more success than others. Not what they are doing, what bait or lure they are using and how they are presenting that bait or lure.

Davy You should be fine with that set-up
Try different retreival speeds. I hear that some of the salmon schools have been a bit finicky and varying the retreival speeds has helped get them to bite.
Woodmans Point is always good for salmon in Perth.

Anywhere around there would be fine when the schools arrive
It might be a bit early for this year's schools to be in Perth yet, but you never know.
South and North Mole are also good when they do come.

plenty of salmon down here
plenty of salmon down here in busso at the moment .. i went out in the tinnie yesterday and picked up 12 salmon ranging from 7kg to 2kg .. the smaller ones went for a fluro green soft plastic using a very aggressive jerking action .. the bigger ones went for live herring and 1 was caught with a smilin' jack lure .. the lures really didnt work too well as there are still too many herring around .. i tried poppers and rapala's for a blank (casting into a school of about 50 fish all over 5kg) .. all n all was agreat day ..
plenty of herring around for use as bait too
