Hey guys,
would anyone please please be willing to point me in the right direction to go sambo jigging. i did it on a charter once and had a ball but just dont know where to go to find sambo schools around perth. would prob travel upto 5km off rotto but have no spots. anyting i catch i will release with release weights so if anyone has any spots or advice to find schools that would be awesome. can pm me if you like. i guess my main problem is im not fantastic at working my sounder so i cant pick up anything when im travelling at a decent speed. that makes finding fish a long and hard process.
thanks alot
mark.

If theres not any sambos,
If theres not any sambos, there should be some amberjack. Ended up pulling a few runts (3kg-ish) off the barges. The derwent had bigger amberjack though.
Can your sounder pick up stuff when you're driving slow/stopped?
Most sambo jigging is over summer where they aggregate around structure like the barges or the derwent. Other times of the year it can be quite a bit harder, but not impossible. Anchoring and berleying at the right spot can bring them around as well.

Yeah, you'd berley up in
Yeah, you'd berley up in shallower spots <40m.
Barges are pretty easy to find on a sounder if you're looking in the right area. Just look for the ground lifting up a couple of meters. The fish will be patches above the bottom. Knowing your sounder well and tuning it will certainly help, but probably not as critcal as bottom fishing (looking for coral types or individual fish).
I dont know the exact location of the barges, but you can see rotto from them, so not 'too' far.

There were big sambo's on
There were big sambo's on one of the wrecks behind Rotto weekend before last... Not in great numbers, but there are still fish around.
And plenty of amberjack there for entertainment... They fight a lot harder than sambo's (no disrespect to sambo's - i am there number 1 fan)
