Samson Jigging

Apart from Jamie's report regarding the number of sharks at the Hillary's aggregation, has anyone else started there Samson jigging campaign for the 2007/2008 season?

John

We went out yesterday with tapout and boutime went out on his mates boat. We stayed around rotto for a while and bouttime went straight to the containers. He said there were plenty on the sounder but none could be jigged up! They tried a few didferent spots and none would fire. So we disided not to head out for a jig.......

Keep it tight, reeeeeeel tight!

Mon, 2007-11-05 18:22

Hit the south container but couldn't get any on the jigs. Plenty of fish on the sounder.

Using mates new Furuno 585 and had half the screen light up. Had a look over the side and saw a heap of bait fish. Bait from 5mtrs down to about 50mtrs in 110mtrs of water. A few minutes later saw Tuna busting up about a km away. Didn't have any gear for them so didn't head over for a look. Saw a few big splashes though.

yes, more pink snapper/skippy/BB etc than dhues, in saying that it's produced a few big dhues of late!

Heya John,
If you ever need a spare hand, I'm always more than happy to help!

from what bouttime's said, I just hope its not like it was towards the end of last season. a couple of trips out, there'd be fish there, but just wouldn't turn on... with the only option left to move on until you find one that does, though it might be worth coming back later. that was quite frustrating.

Anyone care to PM me a co-ord for these containers

I been out before and found sambos, just look for the other boats, but never any structure on the bottom I would call a container.

I'll send you a PM later when I find it.

Though the sambo's don't sit right on it, they move around and you just need to sound for them.

Picked up a load of the williamson 400gm jigs for $5 and the sambo's love them to, they normally take anything.  Demersals seem to be more picky.

Whole whiting with a big circle hook thru the nose works for me every time.
Gets its fair share of dhuies and snapper as well.

lead sinker with jig hook

Sat, 2007-12-01 08:17

worked best for me last year as we lost about 30 jigs in an hour  and only had sinkers and spare hooks left .ended up with at least 20 sambos on that one rig which probally cost 3$$

Forget the Searocks and SWABs

Fri, 2007-11-30 23:09

They seem to have developed a liking for Jigmasters, Fishermen, Diarchi, Smith.....

Pack one expensive one at least.....you will see what we mean....could mean the difference between no fish and having some fun......

Seems to be lots of big ones out there....

Jigs

Sat, 2007-12-01 12:05

The jap lures work well because the japs put in $$$ and time to get their jigs working properly .

If you work a jig right you can catch any fish that eats other fish for food .
