School holiday travel north

For those planning to travel north of Gero on the upcoming school holidays should think very seriously about not driving around Carnarvon after dark. From about 80km south to the Coral bay turnoff there are PLENTY of roos, goats and cattle feeding on the grass along the roadside that has sprouted from recent rains.
A mate drives roadtrains down to Gero and back up each night reckons he sees literally dozens of cattle each way every day and I occasionally drive buses out to the salt mines and again see oodles of roos and cattle both at night and during the day.

Good heads up. I find this
Good heads up.
I find this the worst time of year to be on that stretch of road.......(after spring rains)
.... and as a person that has done battle with a bull in my landcruiser on the Exmouth road, can tell you I wouldn't recommend it !

Tow truck
Occasionally I drive a tow truck and the last thing I want to do is meet Fishwrecked members on the side of the road after they've had a meeting with cattle at night.
Its happened once and I don't want it to occur again

Lucky for me the Landcruiser
Lucky for me the Landcruiser came off best and didn
t need a tow truck. (big steel bull bar killed the bull outright)
had to do a bit of panel work on the side of the road (with a sledge hammer to get the guards off the tyres) but the car was still drivable. massive damage but pretty unbelievable to still be able to drive.
the worst thing (apart from the repair bill when I got home) was ...the whole side of the car and trailer was covered in cow shit which got caked on by the heat.
we were a strange sight pulling into Coral bay !!!
Boys week to remember

Cow shit
You got to love the cow shit, happens every time someone hits one and sprays over everything.
Don't I just love climbing under the front of a vehicle to hook the winch wire on with cow shit dripping on you NOT!!!!!

just returned from Exmouth
and yes. There is plenty of cattle. During the day there are quite used to traffic and sit by the roadside but can catch you unaware at night when a mob appear in your headlight in the middle of the road
Plenty of roos and lots of sheep
Sheep are a pain because if one runs across the road, all will run across the road
Twin turbo..V8 diesel..Ohh what a feeling!!
