Shark Bay

Going to Shark bay at the end of next month and taking a 7 mtr boat.
I know the area is quite shallow and I have admiralty charts and plotter but was wondering if anyone had travelled the route between Denham and Cape Peron (via water not sand tracks) and could provide any additional info on hazards or maybe the best way to get there.
Will probably be camping at Bottle Bay or Gregories.

Never been to Peron by boat

Never been to Peron by boat but I have been north of Big Lagoon a few times and over to the tip of DHI.

There are a few shallow spots around bar flats, and several shoals about 6nm west and south west of the entrance to big lagoon, but these should be clear on your plotter and charts.

Some of the survey work for charts in that area are bit long in the tooth. Couple this with strong currents,a mobile bottom of seagrass, sand and mud, and you often end up with less than half a meter of water under your hull when the charts and plotter tell you are in 5m of water. I have had it happen a couple of times.

Even if you have the latest charts, the survey work may be decades old.

Keep an eye on your plotter, sounder, and the water. Know you tides. They can get big up there.

Large tidal currents with opposing winds can cause a fairly nasty sea up there as well.

Just approach the area with a little bit of caution an you will have a great time.
