Out fishing off Bunno yesterday and lifesavers came out to let us know the becon picked up a 5 metre white. how reliable is this technplogy? there were no reports on ch16 and there were a heap of divers out as the water is clearing up down here.

From what i gather the technology is spot on
they go off all the time but dont publicise it, will monitor the threat and alert people accordingly depending on risk to the public.
I doubt most of the sharks are tagged anyhow so really it doesnt make the beaches or water any safer to swimmers/ divers

A young mate of mine was just out past the last channel marker in Bunno thursday before last in his 4.75mtr alli and was buzzed by a white bigger than his boat, there are plenty around. I would say the beacons are pretty reliable but hardly any sharks are tagged compared to how many are out there the govt needs to let the Discovery Channel tag team in so they can have a go.
