off shelf boat covers

Just looking for a new boat cover and found these polyester canvas ones on ebay

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Heavy-Duty-6-4m-7-0m-Trailerable-Jumbo-Boat-Cover-/261410448868?pt=AU_Boat_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cdd46e5e4

Look the heaviest duty ones I can find

Anyone have any experience with them??

Not these but picked up one

Sun, 2014-03-09 09:57

Not these but picked up one from the Cover Guys. 2 years old now and its faded but sound. Boat is stored in the open 24/7. Watertight but breathes and keeps the boat dry and clean. Whatever you get, a good one is worth it.

$400 is cheap that wouldn't

Sun, 2014-03-09 10:33

$400 is cheap that wouldn't even cover the 10oz canvas cost if made here in Oz .. there's no way it's going to fit like in the pic , as all boats are different and canvas has no stretch but will shrink .. just make sure rain doesn't pool up to any great extent . At a guess GK trimmers for a custom fit would be $2000 so as long as it does the job it might be worth the punt .

Cost big bucks. A good quality tarp held on with occy straps is my preference.

I've got a cheapie

Sun, 2014-03-09 11:49

It's been good but tears easily on corners and my baitboard mount. Personally anything under $1200 i wouldn't believe for a second that its trailerable.

Just to clarify , it's not

Sun, 2014-03-09 13:22

Just to clarify , it's not for trailering, just for a storage cover.

Mate bought his from whitworths for 460 and he gets a few good years use.

That ebay one I found is actually heavier material.

Cant see it lasting much less than a custom $2000+ jobby.  Hey , if you get 3 or 4 years out of it , its money very well spent.

I'll wait to see how yours looks Chris.

Today

Got mine today. Took a week as well.
Got to say for under $200 I am pretty happy with it.
If it lasts 2-3 years it will have been a cheap investment.

A good idea in winter or when

Sun, 2014-03-09 18:50

A good idea in winter or when damp is to put foam noodle pieces as spacers between gunnel rubber and boatcover for some air circulation as well .

Boat cover

Mon, 2014-03-10 03:16

I bought one from estuary marine on Saturday nearly identical to this one $500 bucks, well made in my opinion, this is the second one of these I have purchased with the first one lasting nearly four years. My boat is also stored in the elements .definately a must, my boat looks the same condition now as 5 years ago when I bought it, the weather can definately take its toll on your boat

I bought a cheap one

Mon, 2014-03-10 15:20

which lasted about a year in karratha. The boat has a custom canvas one, but it was a pain to put on, so decided to go a quick and easy cheapy.

Now I just suffer the pain, and it has actually become easier to put on with practice.

One thing I can pass on if you have rocket launchers is to make a fitting out of PVC pipe that fits into your launchers, which protects any cover, and makes it a hell off a lot easier to pull the cover over as it slides over the PVC.

Yep

Oceansouth - not the same specs as in the ad on ebay.  Still quite good for the price though.

Bought ebay for $196.  Exactly the same item in Perth boat shop is $329.

I'm looking for something

Tue, 2015-10-06 07:53

I'm looking for something cheap but effective to last me a year or two before I buy a custom cover. I only travel down south or at best Jurien Bay so not overly concerned about being covered while travelling.

My boat actualy came with a very thick canvas cover but it looks like he bought it before the bimini/rocket launchers as it doesn't go over top of them and they don't fold down which is a real shame.
