Yes

Mon, 2006-10-16 21:38

Yes  Bit of jigging and bottom bouncing so you wont get tired of one thing. Target species are sambos, ambos, pinkies, dhuies, etc etc......basically what evers out there we're there to catch them.....all on jigs if possible.
Jay, gears provided varies but none the less the best. Some custom job rods and most reels are top end stuff ie Van Staal and Shimano Torsas.........Hapuka and Trevallas are a different ball game altogether......thats DEEP DEEP stuff.

honsu, you using a stella 8000? heard the reel is fantastic! might need some advice from you coz i actually was hunting for a reasonable priced reel. still cant decide between a shimano tynos30IIspd or twinpower 6000? any comments or recommendations? might take up your offer for fish & chips and check out your tackle store too.

btw, when is the cut-off whether we press on with the trip not?

What purpose do you want it

Tue, 2006-10-17 20:23

What purpose do you want it for Shamu and what line are you planning on running through it? I think the Twin Power is really only suitable for 30lb or less (Shimano should make 8000, 10000 and 20000 sizes I think).
On the other hand, the tyrnos is quite heavy and I wouldn't use it for anything other than trolling.

theres a BIG BIG BIG MAJOR (emphasized enough?) difference between those 2 reels shamu!

for stella 8000, you can use the JM350, I won't be interested with the 'light' gear on the day honsu =)

For the Japanese Twinpower, its rated to 15kg drag, so I could run pretty high lb. The rated PE for Japanese stella 6000 is up to pe4, and 8000 pe5, so they do actually cover 40-50lb+ line spinning reels for 'medium class' jigging/other usage. I don't know the exact recommendations for the equivalent reels locally though, but those figures might serve as a good referrence?

Tue, 2006-10-17 20:53

actually i saw it on a jap website that they do make twinpower 8000 but not in any tackle store yet. check out this website http://www.plat.co.jp/english/shimano/salt_reel/top.htm

i was thinking of getting a multi-purpose medium class (up to 15kg) type reel so that i can use them when fishing off jetties hoping for a monster bite :)

Is the Aussie twin power different Kayc? I always thought the Saltiga Blast was a better reel than the twinpower and that only has 10kg max drag.

the Japanese Twinpower are

Tue, 2006-10-17 21:21

the Japanese Twinpower are built a little bit different and their spools run carbon drag washers whereas ours are teflon/felt fibre. So I would say the local Twinpower 6000 no more than 30lb braid and 10kg mono. The Blast is a better reel in that its more robust and will outlast the Twinpower. But then again both are built for lighter line class than the Z4500 and Stella 6000/8000.

And to say a Stella is reasonably priced is.....well you must be loaded. Reasonable is under $300....lol But yeah mate has used his yesterday to jig with 30lb and its great. Heaps more comfortable to use than the 80lb whopper stoppers. If you want it for landbase spinning...best to match it to a 9-10ft 10kg stick. The rod doesnt have to be expensive either....Livefibre Tournaments/Trophy, Ozflex has their own 10ft graphite 15kg whopper stopper and also Daiwa and Shimano has a number of rods as well.

I'll let you have a go with my Stella combo. No left handers allowed as I hate to loose the tiny cap and washers....lol

KC....JM350 is not even available in Perth so you're really teasing him =)

PS: if someone wants a 8ft+ 80lb WHOPPER STOPPER I have one to offload if anyone is interested.

Wed, 2006-10-18 08:18

I like the way we are all avoiding the W word, augers well for a good day out..... Mav, there'll be TWO skirts AND a tiara on board now, One of the skirts, and the Tiara are worn daily by their owners, so no biggie there. Are you gonna be on board on Sunday Mav?
I'm looking forward to bending my t400(without breaking the reel seat this time...), anyone else taking bottom bouncing gear, or any lighter gear? Or are we purely jigging for the day. Doesn't worry me either way, just wanna be prepared, without going over the top with what i bring. Is there a big ol' communal drinks/food esky, or do we all bring our own....? So many questions. Really looking forward to Sunday.

On board there is a big drinks esky and 2 esky's for fish , you can put your food and drink in the big esky no probs , Al allways buys 6 bags of ice for the eskies and I usually bring some block ice as well so plenty of room for your drinkies , if we're Sambo jigging we don't usually keep any unless the Murdoch Uni want some frames or a punter wants some flesh , lately there has been a few pinkies out there so if we do bottom bounce you may get a pinkie or 2 ( NO gaurantee's tho) just remember we are in the 100's so light gear may not be usefull, PLENTY of gear on board so you only need to bring gear if you really want to use your own gear , just remember if you use light gear and hook a big fish you will be holding up everyone while you take 40 mins to land it , you may just get the "DRESS" to wear the SC award ( soft c@ck award ).

lol, i worked the SC award bit out myself Mav, but thanx for the explanation.... :). Wasn't sure on what to bring, thanx for clearing it up. So for me, 1 x jigging outfit, 1 x bottom bouncing, 1 x 8kg "light" overhead-just in case....

Ice and big eskies, sounds like you guys have planned this around my drinking prowess..... hahahaha

I take it by your referance to supplying block ice, you'll be onboard then Mav?

Sorry but you can still treat me like crap , I can't be the full time decky , same as allways , I will give anybody a hand if they need it , Al's been good to me so I be good to him, what goes around comes around , spent a lot of the last 27 days at freedom marine , hope KARMA was watchin' .

Ricky is still around , just cheffing more often .
