shimano pay people to get into forums

So what’s this story regarding shimano products..
I had been informed on the quiet that shimano pay people to get into forums and push shimano products especially reels..
How much truth to this..

I'm just an addicted shimano fan! love the reels.

I recommend them cos i use and swear by them,

shame though cos no one pays me! I have two bait runners, a tekota and a stradic. I would love to get my hands on a stella someday! Any shimano reps on line i would be happy to review one for you Laughing

I love Shimano equipment and like Brad and Rod I would be happy to receive some new Shimano gear (like a new Twinpower) to say how good they are. (Colin 1 - Co-founding member of the prestigious Colin Club)

Wait in line

Fri, 2008-10-24 08:34

Wait in line crew, I got first dibs.  But honestly, I don't allow that sort of product promotion on fishwrecked without being a sponsor/advertiser.  As you may have noticed with Xzoga rods and Commodore marine, if Shimano wanted to advertise then people could offer opinions, but not exclusively represent another product.

I think it may be a bit more

Fri, 2008-10-24 09:38

I think it may be a bit more surreptitious than that Adam. I dont know about shimano specficially, but I have heard of other things being done on other forums.

Basically the manufacturer pays them to say favourable things about shimano reels. So it wouldnt necessarily be someone saying the same things one of the sponsors would say, but rather it would be like a forum member saying that they are a fan of shimano and they like all their gear, then recommend it often, the same as if you were a regular poster and happened to like shimano gear. Though the difference is that the opinion was not formed freely.

Shimano do make some great stuff.... but then so does daiwa Laughing

The only thing that I have

Fri, 2008-10-24 09:40

The only thing that I have heard is that they get into forums and push a reel or rod.
Most they reply to someone wanting to buy a particular reel besides a shimano.
There job is to try and swing them over to a shimano product and stay anonymous while doing so.

I guess they send in all there reply’s and results in to show what progress has been made.
I have nothing against shimano as I think they do make a good product, but I won’t buy any more reels from them nor diawa due to such high prices they both charge.
There’s plenty more manufactures around that make rods and reels besides these two.

Things do go on in the back ground that could be kept quiet and Dynied..may be some truth to it..
I mean who in there right mind would own up if it were the case.

IMO you get what ya pay for!
Shimano have plenty of reels at the lower end of the money scale.

Sorta figured that it wouldn't be overtly obvious Matt, but I've got a pretty good eye for most stuff like that after being on many forums for many years.  Anyway, I'll keep an eye on it in future and as Doushman said, I don't think Col is like that, maybe higher up the organisational food chain or something.

Yeah Gladiator tackle is my brand of choice!!! And i carnt go past my jw water rat combo!!!!!

Fisharamma, i pretty much fish exclusivly shimano, more than happy to buy quality gear that wont let me down, and for the type of fishing i do, i require top quality gear. I dont think i want to go popping and jigging with a jw or rovex reel. You get what you pay for!!!

Not

Fri, 2008-10-24 14:00

Not necessarily...D_....re-bearings

Buy the cheapest reel and compare it to the dearest, they all have the same bearings.

In other words depending on model the price is adjusted with different part number.still the same bearing.

Other things like how many times is the same handle used on other models, plus the internals.

Just because they make a new model how much of other model parts are used.

So the saying is ..you get what you pay for ..IMO is misleading.

Fri, 2008-10-24 14:37

I dont think that claim is true. Take daiwas CRBBs or shimanos S-ARB's. Are you saying they are  the same as the  ones in cheaper daiwa/shimano reels? What about a shimano bearing compared to ones in a durango? The same size bearings can have different ratings as well, which basically describes the tolerances they are produced with, with higher tolerances being smoother, especially under load. More expensive reels also have more bearings which makes them smoother. Some are a little superfluous though. You can get cheap reels with 10 bearings, but have one with 4 more smooth (being a more expensive, better constructed reel).

bearings are easily and cheaply replaced what is not is bent shafts stripped gears worn anti revese dogs etc.
you will find in general the better qaulity reels are better made and with some basic maintainence will last longer and perform better under stressfull conditions IMO

Fri, 2008-10-24 17:34

I am saying that the shimano cheap reels have the same type of bearing as the higher priced ones.A lot of people are not aware of this.

The part numbers are different for different spinning reels but bag holding the bearing it's the same bearing.
OK so surprise, surprise what does it change..not much cause the quality of the bearings are good. The only disappointment part is the pricing factor between them.

I did a bit more searching on the subject… is any one getting paid by shimano… and found that this subject has been covered on another forum and confirmed as yes..

Then one comment is why would shimano do this..!!!!

Is it that a company would stoop that low to get business or cleaver marketing business strategy.I think the later.

Buy a fishing mag and have a look at how big one or two glossy pages advertising shimano,do this with every edition by different mags and it ends up costing big dollars that need to get a invested return.

I do not wish to offend this forum in giving out any more info..Showing respect to adam and I have always found this forum as one of the best in this country.
You’ll need to google your own search..

stuff you all up we use reef masters reels.  Nothing breaks on them except your finger with a 2lb-4lb sinker  (use bike tube over finger) on it, depending on the tide.
