unconscious
What do you recon made the boat split like that ?
I would have thought maybe hitting a submerged object however the motor legs look ok ......suppose it's still possible to crack the hull and leave the motors in tact.!
Lucky no one was injured and maybe a good lesson to make sure everyone on board knows how to use the safety gear...heard one bloke say he didn't know how to use the flare ! What if the others were injured and he was the one that had to take control ?
I always show my mates who haven't been on my boat before where the gear is, open it up and show them the instructions on it's use and give them a quick run down. I don't want to be there unconscious in need of help while they sit there not knowing what to do !!!
My fishing spots are so secret........... even the fish don't know where they are !!

Hull failure
Apparently they didnt hit anything so sounds like a massive hull failure. The owner comments in this thread

Yea ok read the the post
Yea ok read the the post .....just one of those "shit happens" cases I guess.
They were on their way home after a days fishing with no obvious issues, slowed down to use the loo and then realised something was wrong when they had trouble getting back on the plane......few seconds later.....upside down in the drink ....faaaaarrrrrk !!
Others report on there that it was a calm day too so must have just been a very dodgy hull to break up like that ??

Another one that is well
Another one that is well worth the read is the story about the guys that were fishing underneath the deep water horizon oil rig when it blew up. They were very lucky.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Was wondering its its
Was wondering its its another case of cored hull coming apart given it looks like two sheets of ""glass"" pulled apart (a cored hull is a matting material glassed on both sides - Google 'Sea Ray Balsa Bottoms') - if not done right the glass does not bond to the core material correctly. Hard to tell from the video but the split could be consistent with a core bond failing.
Give me a solid glass boat anyday

I think the term catastrofic hull failure is fitting
That is one very serious hull failure. I can't help but think if there had been a serious look at the hull there must have been some indication that things where not quite right along the keel line, slight cracking depression something.
The ocean conditions look fairly flat so unless there was a decent swell that is not apparent in the vid I can't see sea conditions contributing to the failure.

If ever there was an argument
If ever there was an argument for floatation in a hull, that would be it !
