slide baiting hooks

Hey guys.
I managed to nearly get spooled again last night to find the fish dropped the hooks around 500m from shore. I wound in to see my steel leeder shredded and both my hooks snapped below the barb. These hooks were owner SSW 9/0 circles.
Just wondering what other guys use as I shyed away from gamakatsus for the same reason. I mostly slide whole tailor and wanted to stick with circles. Any recommendations welcome.
