Without the stretch from mono its hard to get a decent size bait all the way down without pulling the sinker loose. Also, there a higher chance of being burnt off if you get a pickup and your slide isnt all the way down.
If your sliding baits for snapper, mullas, tailor etc I wouldnt worry about it too much.
Alot of people who slide baits do it chasing larger fish where the fight is likely to be an hour or sometimes longer. In these cases the mono also providesd extra abrasion resistance against sand banks etc. Also, the slide going down the braid will, over time, cause abrasion to the braid and will mean you need to change your line more often.
Im assuming your using a spinning reel? What size baits are you thinking of sliding?
If your gonna slide using braid give the sinker extra time to settle, use sinkers with extra long legs and use a rod with a slightly softer tip. Not a broomstick.
But then I had this discussion at oceanside when I explained why I only wanted 400m of braid on my reel (to allow for 200m of mono) and was told I was wrong, so hey... what do I know?
Below is the first post that came up when i searched on another site. More searching on that site might clear the issue up a bit more for you.
30lb braid on a 12ft beach rod, using live bait when i can get it or blue mack or something of the same size. Only recently started sliding but used a reel with 40lb mono, soft tip makes sence, saves using an umbrella with a brick tied to it so you dont un-anchor it.
sliding just makes sence, nothing worse than the earth shattering ka-boom your bait makes when it hits the water and gets busted up. i guess with my luck the bait should get to the stopper before anything takes it. that bit of extra distance from the braid would be good, save getting mixed up with the white wash on a hop step and jump befor the happy gilmore cast, yes pendulum cast is an option but id rather use momentem than pure thrust when throwing out pricey rigs.

Tried it and got burnt
Tried it and got burnt off. It might be alright if you want to use 100lb plus braid.

Mono
I tried both mono and braid at steep point, slide baits and balloon rigs. Have to say mono worked best and also had the best feel over all
What i ended up with ,was braid backing and mono on top. Found this a very nice to use and got good results.

Mono
Not that I do it much but mono is the go. Cuthbad is one of the 'gurus' of that style fishing on this site. I would highly rate his advice
