Slimey Buggers

After the great story and pics put up by NOHA I thought I might as well put up a couple of pics as well from a trip out to some new ground out behind rotto.

Sorry not the best pics as I'm still waiting on the others.

Fought most ofthe way up this one and only floated the last bit.

On the deck

ps This is what it looked like b4 you ate it Willy.

Drift

Mon, 2008-08-25 22:09

The drift looks pretty quick that day Tim. Must have had a lot of line out by the time you hit the bottom.

What are they like on the tooth?

Not Bad

Mon, 2008-08-25 22:14

Not too bad John. About 1 knot. Wasnt too bad keeping bottom.

Good on the tooth. Looks very muck like Dhufish once filleted.

Bloody slimey on the outside tho.

It went 20kg and just under the max allowed of 1m. Never thought I would hope a fish was smaller than it looked when it hit the surface

Slimey like an Estuary cod.

Mon, 2008-08-25 22:20

Slimey like an Estuary cod. Hapuka's where worse. Had an esky full of snot the next morning.

That one meter rule is so wrong for these fish. I fully support it for the other cods to protect those big inshore species that can be released but this rule is just killing these fish for nothing. As you can see they are fully blown with eyeballs full of gas bubbles and not a kick in them. Dead on arrival.

Agreed

Mon, 2008-08-25 22:23

Agreed Mark - They normally come up dead but this bugger was still kicking on the deck after he was landed. 1m rule should be for further north and shallow species not deepwater species like this.

I know of a fish that went 1.5m that had to be thrown over dead because of that rule. Such a waste.

grey!

Big Grey Tim, very nice indeed. Slimmy pricks but they taste superb and I do agree about the 1m rule, sad waste....needs to be looked at!
