In an age of blaming someone/something else for ones mistakes - i will admit this to be my fault- took a wrong path through to Thomsons bay going around Bathurst point - have snuck through there many a time without issue - this time we ate some reef
thats my summer done - got home on one engine with no steering (we had a friendly escort to assist if required) and slept onboard overnight until the lift out in the morning - nothing like the sound of bilges pumps running all night to keep you up !

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Mate , its easy done.
Prop repair places wouldnt exsist other wise.
Pre gps days , everyone used to carry a spare prop, away on holidays , cause it was done so often ,
Only option is one of these, ha I remember them well , they were gunna change the world!!
thats it mum , bring the kiddy closer , closer!

haha - well if i am to be totally honest it was the gps (following an old track)that led me to grief!
I think the props are scrap - port might be ok as a spare - as for the Victor Jet - fine for kids with short hair! - haha - do they do them in diesel variants??? :-)

If I remember correctly most
If I remember correctly most of those Victa outboards were sold to China for use as irrigation pumps!

Ouch
You have my deepest sympathy, having been there done that--although my gear was a lot bigger than that. Nothing like having your first commercial command being a twin screw, really sharpens you up:-) Got very good at changing props on scuba gear, because there were no boat lifters/slips available.
edit-just noticed the GPS reference--there is no GPS which is as good as the old Mk1 eyeballs when things are tight.

thanks Ranmar Mk1 eyeballs
thanks Ranmar
Mk1 eyeballs are probably a snip sharper(now) - was a pretty ugly sound and happened so quickly -by the time the cloud of (diesel) smoke cleared we were already off the bombie - no one was hurt, thats what matters most

What ever it was it looks
What ever it was it looks like you got all of it!
You say the bilge pumps were running, where do you think the water was getting in? Has the rudder damaged the gass above it?

Oh dear me
Sorry to see that, there is nothing quite as alarming as the sound of props chewing their way through a big chunk of terra firrma. And just when you hope it's all a bad dream you experience that severe shuddering sensation that confirms it isn't a bad dream.
Yep been there experienced that, doesn't make for a good day on the water.

z00m - does not appear to be
z00m - does not appear to be any glass damage to hull- rudder has an internal stainless frame but that did not penetrate hull
will know if there are any cracks etc once we pull off p-bracket and remove rudders, water was coming in thick and fast through rudder and shaft seals - the rudder seals are the old style greased square rope - the shaft seals (were) dripless - now drip-alot! - was just the rear bilges going on and off (all night!)

Man thats gotta hurt. I was
Man thats gotta hurt. I was out in Rocky Bay one day and a brand spanker Sunseeker was coming in and clocked the reef, he was used to a smaller boat. The sound that made when he hit the reef was awful and that was hearing it from another boat, Must have been a nasty experience for you.

generally your insurance
generally your insurance should cover that?
What boat is it?
We were at Thomsen Bay til saturday, on thursday night some kindly soul ran over and cut our bow anchor line on the beach moorings but couldnt find the 3 seconds to tell us until we were on top of the boat next to us

Nautilus Insurance - my new
Nautilus Insurance - my new best friends - yes they will cover, if the gearbox and hull is ok then i will self insure- trust me it will work out cheaper in the longrun! - i thought the gearbox was ko'd but our mechanic has been down today and said the shaft coupling is cactus (like a shear pin designed to go first i guess?) and gb should be ok
boat is a one off glass flybridge - was built to last and a while ago :-)

Sigh of relief
Nice. That should put a smile on your dial. Its great when a balls up turns out only about 1/8th as bad as it could have been.
