Soapy

Had a crack at the drain today, mucked around trying for whiting but none around so i chucked a mulie out on a gang,  2nd cast and bang, hook up.... Didnt run much immediately but gave a good run about 20m off the beach then gave up. I had it called for a tailor and was pleasently suprised when this little fella came ashore. Certainly was fun on my little whiting rod with 20lb.

a quick photo then was released successfully to fight another day.

Nice one. Good to see a few

Nice one. Good to see a few soapies around, would be good to target them on light gear if they are in numbers. Was thinkin today, lookin at the people on the north wall at Hillarys, the dirty water, bound to be a few cruisin around, big or small.

yeah mate i was pretty stoked with it esspecially since it was caught at midday!

Yep, got it at the floreat drain, its the first i've caught there, never seen any others caught there either so cant really comment, it looks to be a few people are getting them on other beaches so it could just be the time of year when they are hanging about.

See a lot of reports from people getting them at eshed and good sizes too.

good luck

Nice fish mate, always a bonus to catch one of these.  Caught one at the drain myself about a month ago.

cheers for the comments, i've

cheers for the comments, i've never (touch wood) had any vandalism or car issues there yet, but i have only fished after work for a few hours (till 7-8ish) or on weekends so never left the car there that late. yesterday when i left a cop was driving checking all the carparks along there so hopefully they are doing regular patrols which should stop the thieves and vandals

Shallow

Mon, 2013-08-19 13:58

Hi Peter

I went fishing there last night at about 8pm. Obviously it was dark so we were struggling to gauge the water but we were thinking that it was really shallow for about 60 odd meters out with no gutters between the breakers and the beach.

Were we wrong?

yeah it was  pretty shallow

Mon, 2013-08-19 14:21

yeah it was  pretty shallow hey, Saw some people swimming to the right of the drain and at the breakers when the water was lowest was above waist height.

I was trying to cast out as far as i could & couldnt get behind the swells properly, i reckon in front of the breakers  it would have been between 1-2m deep depending on when the waves cycle- peaks & troughs.

you get any bites?
