soft plastics knot?

hey all hopefully going jigging saturday and going to try and crack the soft plastics cherry , ive only had success with these in the  rod holder.... my question is ?  do i tie my wind on leader onto my jig head using a perfection loop knot? thus having no swivel/split ring, invoved? or attach it normally as you would a metal jig? also do you jig a soft plastic like a metal jig? only slower lifts more twitching and drops? im jigging mainly for dermersals, any help is muchly appreciated.... and yes i know theres a search bar to the left....haha

Like your on the right track.

Yep, leader to jig head via a perfection loop is the way to go.

Work the plastic close to the bottom a little less aggressively than you might a jig though mixing it up is always a good idea.

Good luck

Yep. Tie the line straight to the jig head. I have used clips on large jigs above  say 3oz

I tie straight to the jig

I tie straight to the jig head, I don't even worry about a loop.

Like Steve says, I would not use a clip unless you're using real big placcies out wide.

Knots

Sat, 2014-04-26 08:12

Hi mate, Through personal experience I have had loop knots fail when tied to jig heads. The point where the line pinches and pulls againt the attached point has split numerous times. Much preffer tying a uni knot directly to the jig heads, Hasnt failed yet. As for action the paddle tail SP's require only a small lift and drop technique whilst retrieving small turns of the handle. Whilst split tail plastics require more of an eratic flicking motion with the rod tip to effectively work them.

If you're just blooping them

Sat, 2014-04-26 08:47

If you're just blooping them up and down below the boat then just go the uni

If your casting them and need the extra action then use this loop knot.  (very strong)

If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Lefty loop,

Tue, 2014-04-29 08:44

Hi mate, I always use a knot called "lefty's loop" it's tied direct to the jig/lure anything at all.  I'm not a very technical fisherman but have had no problems since a mate who only fishes plastics/lures etc put me onto it.

cheers

G
