solo surprise

took the new suzuki for a solo run out of mindarie today and had my arms stretched by this little bloke, cobia went 1.40m at 20.4kg on soft plastic, dhuie was 56cm. was a great way to brake in the new combo gomoku kaiten stradic fj 4000 15lb ygk braid and rediculously impressed with the new suzi more then halved the fuel bill

 HA epic catch!

Do you know what ygk braid it is exactly? I think wx4 and wx8 are the most popular. I have wx8 on one of my reels and it is honestly the worst braid I have ever used, lost plenty of fish and even more lures just from casting. Pretty disapointed considering its "high end" and was bloody expensive

Mine has played up since new, I really should have taken it back for testing, but just thought I was unlucky for it breaking, then it started to break at least once an outing. YGK are known for bad batches of braid thats what im putting it down to

Sun, 2014-08-17 18:47

great cobia, top quality eating for sure and freezes really well. Fun to fillet as well.

My missus caught a 26kg one in Coral Bay 18 years ago but havent seen one near even 20 since then.

The way the metro area is fishing lately not much surprises me now. But that is an awesome catch up north let alone down here in August. Well done mate. That would of been a few anxious moments near the end by yourself!!

I caught one recently that pulled down to 22kg but It wasn't as big as this one,I think I need new scales!
Some serious girth on the big boys.
I have seen one just under 5 feet long out of Broome.

Always love the dogged nature off cobes. They just dont give in. Just when you think I got ya beat mate, they get another surge of energy and down they go.

Also agree with RobH, great to fillet as everything is just in the right place.

 first time filleting a fish

Mon, 2014-08-18 08:36

first time filleting a fish of this size and it turned out well very easy actually, i cut all the blood lines out and the misses was impressed with the taste, i dont eat seafood so my steak was great. the misses tried thin fillet cooking but said steak size and the way it cooked was much nicer and some asian greens and chilli flakes was a great way to finish the day, couple cans to top it off

Leader Knot

Mon, 2014-08-18 10:42

Have caught reasonable sambos, nice pinks and the odd ray on mine and have been very happy with it.  Had the same problem with the leader until I learned to tie the mid-knot.  A bit of a pain to tie but very slim and solves the issue.
