Some help with my trip please, making a list

Ok so far

I have

ring 4x4 rentals to see what it would cost

Book a cabin if I am going to stay in one, an decide on time I am going

Find out what gear I need to take in 4x4 with me for trip ?

tire inflaters etc etc... phone hell I dont know, Eperb ?? lol

Costs for fishing gear an what gear I need tot ake up there for what species. (not buy the flashy crap cos its "on sale".... again.

Driving upt here knowing if theres anythign I need to be aware of (Road trains) Animals on roads , that sorta thing.

Most of em I can do an have done, bar the cabin till I decide if I am gonna camp or not.  Most wild roads I have ever driven on is the Perth CBD Tunnel :D

So, an I over doing it, or am I spot on so far you think ?

 Beer, 4x4 recovery gear,

Wed, 2015-09-30 17:25

Beer, 4x4 recovery gear, shovel, fishing rod holders (pvc pipe), good camp chair, head lamp, 12 volt light, esky, rod holders for travelling, sharp knives, insect repellant, toilet paper, esky or fridge, bedding and a good tent if camping

I would aim to go around end of April early May for the weather as it should be pretty pleasant then and good winds for camping. And being that's it's your 50th more beer.

Shark bay

Ok Tassy have you worked out if you are staying in a cabin or hiring a camper for the time?

You mentioned earlier that going to the ocean side, dirk hartog, the cut might be on the cards. If you are staying up near Denham or monkey mia then that is a long drive. Plenty of cabins available up that way if you go out of school holidays. (recomended)

If you hire a camper then you can change spots pretty easily. Try the ocean side, bay sides etc. Not locked into one spot and can get good fishing no mater where the wind is coming from. Wind up there can wreck a good holiday.

Last time i went up there (earlier this year) i stayed at Nanga Bay. Check out my post with the search function. It's kind of centeral to going to Monkey Mia or around to the ocean side. There are cabins available or a caravan park to camp in. There was not a huge amount of people there as we went just after the school holidays in April/may. The facilities are getting a bit run down now as the park is owned by an old chineese lady who was a bit schizafrenic. nice one day and a complete bitch the next. Fuel is also available there.

If you want to get a camper then i recomend Crickey Camper hire in ozzy park. They do a 4x4/camper package that is pretty competative and the 4x4's are well set up. I recomend you go for a fridge also that they hire pretty cheap.

If you are going for a beach/rock rod then i recommend a 10-11ft Ugly Stik. Tough enough to haul a snapper up the rocks and will give you an average cast from the beach. Cheap enough also. Pair that with an 8000 size spinning reel with 30-40lb braid and you cant go wrong.

The drive up there can be done in 1 day but it is a long day. The roads are in good nick and wide enough not to worry about the roadtrains. The roo's can be pretty thick in the mornings/arvo's especially if there has not been much rain during the wet. They will be chasing the verge grass if it has been dry. Goats and sheep everywhere but generally not on the road until night time.

If you plan on getting right off the beaten track then a personal EPERB is pretty important. 1 rule is dont leave your vehicle so with an EPERB you have peace of mind knowing someone is deffinatley coming to get you if you are in trouble. Double the insect repelant count. Thay have been known to get thick.  If you are camping then make up some quick and easy meals and freeze them before hand. Spag bol, curries, stews and some sauces for cooking fish in. Nothing worse than getting back to camp and having to cook for 2 hours. If you have an engel fridge set it to freeze and just have a small esky for your cold foods. Make the ice for the esky and freeze down the fish you are catching.

Hope that helps a bit.

that is huge mate, thank you

that is huge mate, thank you very much, will follow all those points. Not sure I'll go camper ruoute. begining to think the Cabin idea is better ?. I like look of Strong point. Channels like that usually  provide alotof fish on the change. Langa is definatly a spot I am gonna try. Sat maps make the area look really nice for relaxing an fishing. getting out of wind ??...Not sure on Dirt hartog. I have never driven real offroad before an as we all know it doesnt take a "newbe" long to really get into a situation he cant get out of lol. I might make Strong point my  last desination so I can work my way up to there then back again. Probably stay in Denam I think. Other option I had was to fly up there an hire a 4x4 threre. But I would make the drive. its part of holiday to see the area. 9-10 hour drive is fine when your not in a hurry. As for species. Rod sounds fine to me, what are tidle flows like? do I need alot of sinker or can you get away with enough to get to bottom etc ?....

(case in point) in Tasmania theres a place called Beutey point, with a tide drop of 15 feet. the water comes through there are about 30 mile an hour soemtimes lol (seems that way).. So when your rod goes in, unless you have a heavy wieght on end you wont even see bottom near where you put it in.

edit Staying in Denham definately.

Something you may want to

Something you may want to consider while you are there is to do a day charter. I believe Mac Attack is still doing charters, not sure about anyone else. Guarantee you will have a ball.
