mate go down to one of the fishing stores get a copy of Geoff Wilson's fishing rigs and knotts book will awnser all your questions regards rigs and knotts on various different species both for estury and ocean!!
Use bloody mulie chunks and berley up and then maybe chuck on a #4/0 mustard live bait hook and thread chuck on a Yellowtail Grunter or better yet a nice fillet of Mullet!! But seriously its really upto you.. if you want to land one of these elusive fish you would need to chuck in some of your own thoughts aswell as elbow grease and do some research on the internet!!! I went through all this aswell mate and from my experiences you just need to put in the time and effort.
Make a list up of all your questions, see ya local tackle store and get all the info you need, you can grab all the gear you need at the same time and make up rigs then get into them ;)
Just throw in maybe a handful of mulie chunks in... This will get the fish searching! After that about every 5-10 mins through in another handful and keep repeating! The blowies will be tucked into bed (most of them) but no the mulloway will not come in close but the water is pretty deep so it just gets the fish fired up! Just like you smell a nice ROAST your mother is baking in the oven and your tummy is grumbling so your really amped up to tuck into the ROAST!! So yes its all abot trial and error... So hit the NARROWS and tackle it head on just like how you would tackle someone with the footy in there hands =] well I suggest tackle the pylon!!!

AMA, mulloway get very sizey over here indeed. I think the biggest I have seen in a mag is about 37kg, but there's probably even bigger ones out there.
I think the key to fishing landbased anywhere for anything better than your bread and butter fish is patience...
there is a million and one theories and ideas... some that have worked for other people and some which dont.... However, what people sometimes fail to say is that, even the things that do work one day in one spot, wont work the next...
so, try to remember where and when for the particular conditions and try to think like the fish that it is and try a few different rigging ideas and you should eventually hit the jackpot....
Just typical... a guy local here in quinns went out to the (not allowed to fish spot) near the caravan park here in quinns, off the beach... not even a keen fisherman... using a unweighted fillet of mullet on 2 hooks, snelled onto leader.... fanged it out as far as he could....
landed a 60cm pink snapper on the first cast.... nothing the second.. and a 25kg mulloway on the third.
The guys at tackleworld told me that you cant beach fish anywhere in the city of wanneroo unless its north of two rocks.
I looked it up and according to the City of Wanneroo Local Govt Act, 1995,
Part 7, 42 45(1)(b)
you cannot fish in any area in the city of wanneroo which is designated a permitted bathing area. This is why if you fish between burns and mindarie, the ranger fines you, however, I dont know how strict they are north of quinns... but definitly at the surf club/caravan park, they "could" fine you if they wanted to.
This is why you can fish off the groynes with no real scrutiny. I guess at the end it depends on the ranger. Some are reasonable, but the law is there to give them the power to fine.
I think the city of joondalup is different though which is why you can fish the beach south of burns.
Fishing
45. (1) A person shall not fish in any area—
(a) where fishing is prohibited and the prohibition is designated by signs;
or
(b) set aside by a beach inspector or member of a life saving patrol as a
designated permitted bathing area.
(2) A person shall not at any place whether fishing is permitted or not—
(a) clean fish or cut bait on any seat or hand rail;
(b) leave or deposit fish offal on land or in the sea within 200m of any part
of the beach; or
(c) without written approval of the local government, fish for sharks by use
of set or buoyed lines or use blood, offal or any other lure for the
purpose of attracting sharks within 200m of any part of a beach.
i think its ok to fish as long as there are no signs saying no fishing OR if the beach is patrolled by surf life savers
If you read the act document, and go down to the fines section, it basically says that the fine is $100 to fish off any beach which is designated to be bathed at.
42 45(1)(b) Fish in an area set aside as designated permitted
bathing area
100
So according to the fines section, I dont think its if its actually being patrolled at that time, its if it is an area which is patrolled at all. However, this doesnt count between burns and mindarie? lol
I myself have never heard of anyone being pulled up on the quinns beach... however, it makes sense if you fish in front of the surf lifesaving building near the caravan park to be illegal...
however, I have heard of people being warned and told to packup if they fish up near the alkimos, and I do know of people who have been fined if they fish between burns and mindarie, that stretch of beach.
So, I just gathered i was going to do it anyway because it seems the rangers have the power, they just dont use it cos they think its a stupid rule anyway! lol
ONLY REASON PEOPLE GET IN THE SHIT AT ALKIMOS IS BECAUSE IN THE SHIRE OF WANNEROO YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DRIVE ON ANY BEACH THEY DONT DO YOU FOR FISHING THERE ONLY DRIVING ON THE BEACH TO FISH CHEERS SHAG
I agree with your comments above but for the benefit of the doubt I will give you some good oil
Fish2live. listen write this down because I will not repeat it
Bait, has to be boney herring, i hate live baits so dead is my preferred, now you can get these at most tackle shops and no they aren't the Australian herring we get out of the coast. you can catch them your self but since they don't take a bait it is illegal to do so, I will let you work that out.Cut the tail off and use the head part, about 2/3rds of the boney, with the head at the bottom of your rig
Place, has to be the Narrows, fish the city side and cast into the channel, you will see where the boats go through you need to be here. You need to cast where the lights reflect off the narrows ends on the water ( shadow line)
time, this is crucial, from late sept early Nov.you can always tell by the boneys smashing the surface, if they are there you will catch a mulla, if not don't bother
Phases of moon,, Full moon, few of days before and after are fine
tides must be out going on the full moon, so leading down to a low.
rigs I use the normal surf rig with hooks on the bottom sliding Snell with 80lb mono trace coming up to a swivel, then I get one of those sinker clips that allows your sinker to run up the main line.this allows your bait to go with the tide and keep it off the bottom
reel, must be free spooling ( bait runner) or a very lose drag, let the fish take the dead bait, this is why I use that sliding sinker there is no weight when they pick the bait up
Next place is North mole. but going by your posts I think you are a bit young to fish here so I wont give out advice that may kill you, because you need to fish the storms
good luck I hope this helps, took me years to work out how to fish the narrows and god knows why I just gave you all the good oil
Wally
pps there are some serious snags at the narrows, I will let you loose some monster fish to find out where they are lol
Yeah I know about the 4x4 driving thing. But still doesnt explain why people have been fined or warned from fishing on the remote beaches within the shire.
Not that it bothers me. The guys at tackleworld were the first to tell me about it.. I dont see why they would lie considering they said to me that if I want to, i should still do it anyway cos the rangers just warn you most the time so they werent trying to deter me from fishing spots heh
In fact, he did say, park in the dunes and go fishing near the alkimos and if the ranger comes, he will just tell you to pack your bags and move on but if your vehicle is on the beach, theyll just pull out the fine book without even thinking twice.
*shrug* dont shoot the messenger, as I said before, the boys down at tackleworld in clarkson tend to believe that its prohibited unless north of two rocks...
I would also think it only means between the flags...but then again, "beach patrol inspectors" could just be another name for the rangers... so then it means its prohibited on any beach patrolled by rangers... which would mean every beach except north of two rocks...
Personally, Im not going to stop until i get a warning personally.
I got a warning form the ranger for parking on the beach while having a fish at the start of alkimos bay (just near jindalee). He didn't say anything about the fishing, just the car, and told me to park off the track behind the dunes, then fish as much as I like - so I did.
I'll be keen to hear what Shag's mate (the ranger) has to say - I love a quiet fish on that beach.
Spoke to my Ranger mate about fishing in Quinns there is no problems fishing up at Alkimos you can fish any where up along there just park more than 200mts back from coast or you will get done for parking as far as no fishing areas in quinns it is coming in that no fish zone out front of surfclub only but if caught just told to move on rather than fine he said keep eyes out for new signs that may go up there if new large signs go up chances are they will be pushed to fine you in that area CHEERS SHAG
cant wait till the weather warms up hanging out for a flatrock fishwrecked campout piss up weekend with you and sherbert and a feww of the gang recoverd now from the lucky bay trip lol CHEERS SHAG
Yeah cant wait there shag! Flatrock is a good close trip for an overnighter with plenty of good fish, laughs and beers. Hopefully we can get some good time to get up there soon. See if old sherbs can get drowned again!lol.
Flatrock is just past two rocks, the track runs to the right near the gravity centres second sighn. The track in is really tough going if you havent been there before and a 4x4 is a must because the tracks very tricky and the sand is soft as shit when you get down there. I dont recomend trying this spot if you havent got much 4x4 experiance and theres not too 4x4s going because you will get bogged. They call it flat rock because of the large rock formation that runs along the beach. You can fish directly off it a bit like yanchep lagoon. Loonies if you have heard of it is not to far north.
P.S. I think sherbert has a heap of photos in his gallery of us fishing that spot. We head up all the time in summer and do some overnighters as well. Plenty of good size tailor and mulloway are not to far away. More than welcome to tag along the next time we head up if you like.
Count me in shag ive always got time for a fishing holiday! With me mates!lol. I got ya stuff for you as well mate, bringing it home with me today. Let you know a price later when i get time!hehehehehe

Patience, Ideas and Luck = Experience
I think the key to fishing landbased anywhere for anything better than your bread and butter fish is patience...
there is a million and one theories and ideas... some that have worked for other people and some which dont.... However, what people sometimes fail to say is that, even the things that do work one day in one spot, wont work the next...
so, try to remember where and when for the particular conditions and try to think like the fish that it is and try a few different rigging ideas and you should eventually hit the jackpot....

Cheers Jason

Spoke to my Ranger mate
Spoke to my Ranger mate about fishing in Quinns there is no problems fishing up at Alkimos you can fish any where up along there just park more than 200mts back from coast or you will get done for parking as far as no fishing areas in quinns it is coming in that no fish zone out front of surfclub only but if caught just told to move on rather than fine he said keep eyes out for new signs that may go up there if new large signs go up chances are they will be pushed to fine you in that area CHEERS SHAG

Flatrock is just past two
Flatrock is just past two rocks, the track runs to the right near the gravity centres second sighn.
