Glenn Allan He's had a clean record, never reported, never fined in 10 years of football, you could plainly see his reaction after he realised what he'd done. As one of the Eagles top onballers he would have been tagged, punched, elbowed, niggled constantly through most games for the majority of his career.
He is actually friends with both Brayshaw brothers, was on the golf course with them last week

He simply made a mistake, no history to give reason not to take his word on it, simply a gut punch that has tragically gone wrong for Brayshaw.

He's not a thug, not a monster just a footballer that in the heat of the moment got it terribly wrong. Fort that he will pay for it in weeks but more so in the public bashing by hysterical people on the sidelines that don't know him, have never played the game and show zero thought for his own state of mind and mental health.

Judge the action, but don't pretend to know know enough to judge the person

I have just seen ch7 news on which the premier of this state stated 'that police involvement in situations like this should only occur in the most extreme cases' or words to that effect.

Standing behind the premier and slightly of to the left was non other than the WA Police commissioner.

Firstly whilst the premier is fully entitled to his opinion, he should not voice his opinion when the fall out of the assault which took place on the field of sport has yet to settle and the repercussions of such are still to be played out.

Secondly what he has done IMO is to place the commissioner of police in a very compromising position by making such a statement with the commissioner along side him when making such a statement on what are his beliefs are, which may or may not be according to the law.

Thirdly on the same news report a very prominent QC has put forward the view that such action that has occurred falls within the bounds of the law for serious criminal charges to be laid.

By making such a statement the premier has supplied every person who carries out a "cowards punch" to plead for a soft penalty based on the premiers publically expressed view of such an incident (unlawful assault or GBH)if it happens on a sporting field or regardless of where it occurs.

What's the commissioner of police going to say/do if someone makes a claim of unlawful assault/GBH hmmm, it's ok the premier doesn't think it's to serious so we will let it slide.

Some may say I'm drawing a long bow, but that is how I see things.

 Penalise him, hang him, give him 12 weeks, should have a red card, disgraceful...this is all bullshit...that was the softest so called king hit ever. Gaff Aimed for a shoulder or chest but unluckily and seriously unintentionally just flushed him...a dozen of the those type things happen every week and either they don’t connect or don’t do any damage/injury. This is just an unfortunate “accident” not thuggery or anything like. 

Olde mate, charging him with assault is just crazy and wouldn’t be proven...pretty sure to charge him for GBH you need to prove intent...Nearly every angle shows no intent...he’s not aiming a punch for mine Gaff has head down about to make a break away from the player when he throws it. Bradshaw ducks into it....

 had this been a pies player laying out an eagles player a few weeks ago when they played at the G, it would have caused a state wide uproar. 

The fact it’s a so called “star” of the eagles (I’m stuffed if I know how he was ranked in the top 5 for Brownlow votes predictions) means fark all in my opinion. He threw the punch, did the damage, and now needs to pay the price for his actions. I agree that niggling punches get thrown all the time throughout a game nowadays (especially around boundary throw ins etc) but this was completely off the ball, uncalled for, and was a head high blow. (Obviously).

when Barry hall smacked Brent staker many years ago, I didn’t hear any eagles fans supporting him after the fact, saying it was out of character etc. the mood at that time was that Barry hall was a thug and should be banned for life. I’m not seeing a whole lot of difference in this scenario, but maybe that’s because I’m a one eyed pies supporter. Hahaha

 If it was a so called accident and he was actually a good mate of gaff then why did gaff not stop to help? He did not even look back to see if his Mate was alright.

 As it’s turned out, Andy Brayshaw didn’t play golf with Gaff, never met the bloke. So it’s WCE who need to check the facts.

Wouldn't most people admit it was a punch that turned out to be purely unlucky for all involved. For those that think he aimed for the jaw, honestly ???

Yes it has created a media storm, because the conscequence can outweigh the action. It is an emotional game, but heaven forbid supporters wanting to "fly the flag "  for such events. We will end up seeing the ugly scenes that English soccer has produced over the years, and i am sure no one wants our great sport denergrated to that extent !!!

Common sense says it was a moment Andrew Gaff never intended, he will pay the time, and being a free agent he just might become a cheaper buy on the market for some free loading Victorian team who will take advantage of the situation.

And SCANO, he will be polling well up until Sunday.

“None of us have any interest whatsoever in anything other than what happened tonight. It is a rotten bit of luck — and personally I am absolutely convinced he meant to give him a good whack in the chest.”

8 weeks seems reasonable. Hopefully all the noise now dies down. 

Ive gotta say that Mr Brayshaw has showed more grace in the past 48 hours than almost any public figure I have seen in Australia over the past 25 years.

For all those saying that Gaff is playing the victim in any way are deluding themselves. Gaff comes across much like my son. When he does something wrong he wears the shame and cant let it go. Gaff would be far more concerned (by quite a magnitude) with the result of his actions and the self loathing ,not just the impression he has left on his character. The penalty of 8 weeks would not even be on his mind right now. I reckon if they said to him "we'll make the ban 1 season and all is forgiven" he would take it in a heart beat. Remorse/regret is a powerful emotion.

Now feel free to jump on me and say that this is a weak response.
