Sounder Transponder postioning & angle

Would somebody be able to tell me the best position for the sounder transponder. Is there a rule of thumb, the position the builder placed it was too low causing a rooster tail and at speed the sounder unclicks and surfs giving no reading until you slow it sinks on the bracket and gets working again. I realize I must raise it some but how much? Should it be level with the keel with inside side of the unit directly level with the hull or will that be too high. Appreciate some advice from people who have been here.

I recently had probs with my transducer and googled "transducer intillation instructions" pretty helpful. Basically the transducer should be angled so that the back end is only just below the hull.
