Starlo Stix 9' Shorespin - Anyone Used One?
Hey guys,
Im umming and ahhing over purchasing a starlo stix 9' shorespin... I know theyre a fantastic rod, so im not gonna ask for feedback of it's performance, rather, I wanna put the thought out there for opinions on what the maximum sized (daiwa or shimano) reel you would use with this rod would be?
A mate of mine uses a Stradic 6000 on his and however, when loadtesting the rod and whathaveyou, I put a 5500 sized daiwa reel on the thing and it felt a bit bottom heavy, but still usable...
Also, what would you say the absolute minimum reelsize would be for this rod? Anyone used 3000 sized reels at all on them? If so, how did it feel?
Im trying to decide whether its worth buying a surfcasting reel or just using my second spool on my TD Sol 3000 for the rod. Im looking for optimum casting distance using 30-40gram poppers using 20lb tuffline

Altho I havent used or have
Altho I havent used or have one. By the looks of it, I wouldnt go any smaller than a 4000 size Daiwa. Comfortably would be either 4500/6000 daiwa or 6000/8000 Shimano. Try a feel reels out on the rod and see which ever is comfortable for you. Imo 3000 is way too small unless is a ultra light action 9ft rod.

I think it is more suited to
I think it is more suited to a 6000 size reel, but haven't used one, have had a hold of one in a shop though.
I use a sol 3000 and definately think it is too small for the rod.

yeah Im thinking a Stradic
yeah Im thinking a Stradic 8000FH for it...
They say the Daiwa Emblem Pro 5500, which i was going to go for, is about on par with a Stella 10000 in size so just too big whereas, the 8000 stradic has a higher retrieve speed and a more general better feel... plus, the price would be the same anyway...

The photo of me at flatrock
The photo of me at flatrock is a starlo 9". I matched it up to a applause 6000 and run 20lb braid over it. Nice set up for poppers and raiders for tailor and the like. The rod has got some grunt as well and small reef sharks and mulloway arnt a problem. Yeah i wouldnt go much under a 6000 sized reel as this is perfectly ballenced for a nice combo.
