Starting out

Hey guys, quick quick search but didn't pull up to much. Just a few questions to the dive guys out there. Going to be getting my ticket soon and want to be ready. What gear do you recommend and where to get it? Will 1500 to 2000 be enough to get me started? Any help would be great! Thanks, Tigh

depends on what you want

there is plenty of brands around, do you want a full kit or just the basics like mask, fins, wetsuit? when I did mine I just turned up and used there hire gear, the only thing I brought at the start was a mask. they let us try it out in there pool to see if it was ok.

where abouts are you doing your ticket? they should be able to help. they will try and sell you there brand, I looked around and ended up buying the same as the hire equipment I had used.

That should be enough to get you a decent kit. I got my stuff from mindarie dive in joondalup. i had a problem with my bcd and mike swapped it with out too much drama. where are you doing your ticket?usually people get their gear from where they do their ticket.

good luck and have fun

Till will tell you to go to

Till will tell you to go to the same place as I will, so I'll just keep out of this.

$1500 - $2000 will get you what you need normally as a starter.

Most of my gear is now

Most of my gear is now Zeagle from Dive Tub.

Cheap tanks from dive imports, but leave the rest of their stuff alone. Mask/wetty, you just have to buy whats a good fit from any dealer, try on just about every brand in your segment, its all about fit. I'me using the Cressi Big Eye Evo, let me know if that suits because I have a new spare! Wombat @ Hookah Dive is good for cress, and more freedive gear as well as spears.

I'm diving with a backplate and wing now, whilst they're aimed at the tech diver, they're actually good for everyone, and I find especially good for craying. Nothing better facilitates in-water trim, no annoying jacket-crush when you inflate them, no crap down your front when you're rummaging around in ledges, less weight weight because they'rte not made with lots of redundant foamy crap, pockets in useful places (thigh), instead of useless ones (under your armpits).
