Steep point trip

i havn't posted on here for a while now but we had such a good time i thought this one was worthy of sharing.

headed up to steep point at the beginning of march after everyone bar me had pulled out of the trip had to ring around to find some last minute mates to join me. 4 of us made the trip up the 3 guys that came with were all steep point virgins so they were all champing at the bit to get there. the day we arrived the fishing was hot but the cliffs were full and was difficult to get a spot to spin let alone balloon. we only managed to get one fish between us for the day caught on a $60 20lb jarvis walker outfit with no wire of all things.

the fishing slowed down a lot after that with a short early morning bitemost mornings and only the odd fish throughout the day. hooked myself a moster shark that took 300m of line along with 7 or 8 balloons before i could snap hm off. plenty of big snapper were caught at night and the odd baldie from the western side of the point. hooked a 6 foot hammer on the balloon gear and fought him all the way to the rocks only to have an enourmous shark comefrom nowhere to take him behind the head in one bite. it was prety amazing for evryone to witness even the most experienced of fisherman rarely see somthing like that happen.

while we diidnt exactly fill the freezer we all took home a prety good feed of fish, drank plenty of piss and had a ball, its deffinatly my favourite destination on this earth just for the sheer beuty and rawness of the place, ive never felt so small and insignificant as when we were standing on the edge of the cliff on the western side watching the swell smashing the coastline. cant wait for next year!!

serious lack of photos ecpecially of the snapper its not always viable to running off for a camera when the fish are on the chew haha

The caption that should go with that photo is "what ever you do don't fall in the water"

Looked like you had a hell of a time!

One day I'll take a trip up there. It's just the 12 hour drive from Perth that gets me. It'll be worth it though.

How ironic, a shark gets sharked. Poetic justice
