Stopping smoking with hypnosis?

Hi, just wondering if anyone on the site has used this method for quitting and if it worked for them, want to give up but finding it bloody hard, just wondering if it helps.   Cheers,    Paul.

Tried the lozenges

Sat, 2012-05-12 18:18

I managed to give up nearly nine years ago using the Nicabate lozenges. Had my last cigarette at 5pm on 28/12/03 and took my first lozenge fifteen minutes later. Four years later, had to break the habit of having the lozenges!! Gave them up by chewing Juicy Fruit. Then went cold turkey off them because they were destroying my teeth! Haven't had a juicy fruit in two years. Not saying that would work for you but....lol

Man , thats fu^ke9  Tomcat.  Sad to hear.   Sounds like you've got a bit of serious living to do.

I'm from a family of smokers , aunt went through lung cancer , dad went with heart disease.

I hated smoking when I was really young , and then, somehow, took it up for a good number of years, what with all your mates doing it too.

Booted the habit a number of times before it stuck, and been off them now for years.  started swimming and running to see positive signs.

It's such a shitty stupid  habit that just isn't worth it.

I reckon just have a really big night out when you're feeling like you should give it a rest, then NEVER PICK IT UP AGAIN.

Worked for me more than 10yrs back and even the smell of someone else's cig makes me think thank f**k I quit.

Going to give the hypnosis a

Sat, 2012-05-12 23:10

Going to give the hypnosis a go tried everything else but know im serious. We've just had a scare and still don't know the outcome. My mrs had a chest scan two weeks ago because of a annoying cough. while we were in Bali during the week we received a call from the doc asking Darlene to come in to discuss the results not a great call to receive anywhere but when your on holiday and can't find out the results it's very stressfull especially when her mother died of cancer. Fingers crossed its not as bad as we think find out Monday. Really makes you realize that we are slowly killing ourselves and for what. Tomcat my prayers are with u and your family in this trying and sad times in your life be strong and live and love your life.

Hypnosis

Sat, 2012-05-12 23:24

I tried the hypnosis and failed after a short time, then tried Champix, stopped for 3 months then failed, waited another year than tried Champix again and now it's been 6months and no cigs, lost my Grandma to lung Cancer, my Mum lost a lung to cancer 3 years ago so after 25years of smoking I know this is it I have to quit, not a day goes buy where I don't fancy one but it gets easier all the time,

With Champix you just can't physically smoke , it will make you sick, but when you stop taking it you still have to be strong and NEVER just have one or you may well get sucked back into them again.

The side affects from Champix can be very traumatic as well, prepare yourself for some of the weirdest sickest dreams you can (or cannot) imagine, one particular dream sticks in my head now, quite disturbing really !!!!!

6months later and I feel a lot better, smell better, taste food better but I am also quite a bit fatter!! So got to start the diet soon

Probalby die of a bloody heart attack now instead of cancer.

Its never to late

Hang on in their Tomcat

Sun, 2012-05-13 00:15

Got a few numbers while searching the net one in kelmscott lifetime guarantee first session $400 any sessions needed after that are free for life 0422605241
Second one in east Perth 12 mnth guarantee 92255354. They claim to have a 98%success rate on first sessions. $400 is nothing when I consider the amount I spend on cigaret butts. First thing Monday I'll be makIng an appointment. This time next week only smoke I will be breathing is the smoke from the outboard

I stopped 2 and a half years

Sun, 2012-05-13 11:40

I stopped 2 and a half years ago after 16 years smoking. I done countless tries before, the best lasting until the next weekend and the worst for 2 hours.  What did it for me was a weird chest feeling whilst breathing shower steam. And that lasted for a couple of weeks during each shower and gave me a huge scare. I did it with one week of patches and then cold turkey. My partner stopped with champix as well they seem to work good ( apart of the nightmares and sicknesses)

Good luck to all who wanne try!

And all the best to Tomcat!

And biggerfish I hope all goes well!

Cheers

Seb

heart attack

Sun, 2012-05-13 12:02

For someone who is involved in treating heart attacks every day you will be not only reducing your cancer risk but I would say that more than half the people I deal with are smokers. As for giving up have seen hypnosis work very well. Just remember that on average it takes 5-6 attempts to quit so dont give up if you fail 1st,2nd or even 3rd time.

Ecigs work it's 2 yrs since I made the switch to ecigs, As sleepwithfishes says you still get the nicotine without all the nasty stuff

I was smoking 80+ smokes per day and feel these have saved my life, no more coughing my lungs up daily

If not for you for your family! Its worht it!

Wed, 2012-05-16 09:10

I quit smoking 12 years ago, it was an ad on TV (which has just been replayed recently) of a young girl sitting on the end of a hospital bed talking to her dad about her day - "I wish you were there to see it Dad". This was enough of an incentive for me to quit as my wife and I were talking about starting a family, and I did not want to be in that situation. Quitting is hard and the best thing to do is surround yourself with lots of supportive people. Best wish's Tomcat.

Regards Leith

From 60 a day to nil

Mon, 2012-05-21 12:37

Cold turkey but desperately wanted my dive ticket and had all sorts of problems clearing my ears before giving up.   You just need WILL POWER and a bloody good reason to chuck it in (both in my view) I had smoked from the age of 13 .........

Mind you diving almost caught up with me this year with a visit (two) from a GW in 33 metres of water so have virtually given up diving in southern waters but love it around Dampier despite far more sharks no GW's

In the know

Mon, 2012-05-21 14:10

Sorry to hear about the news Tomcat, but as mentioned above never give in or up.

As for smoking whatever you try has got a chance to work. And as mentioned most people dont quit first time

I cheated and got this from the net.

"The majority of cigarette smokers quit without using evidence-based cessation treatments.1 However, the following treatments are proven effective for smokers who want help to quit:2

  • Brief clinical interventions (i.e., when a doctor takes 10 minutes or less to deliver advice and assistance about quitting)
  • Counseling (e.g., individual, group, or telephone counseling)
  • Behavioral cessation therapies (e.g., training in problem solving)
  • Treatments with more person-to-person contact and intensity (e.g., more time with counselors)

Cessation medications found to be effective for treating tobacco dependence include the following:

  • Nicotine replacement products1
    • Over-the-counter (e.g., nicotine patch, gum, lozenge)
    • Prescription (e.g., nicotine inhaler, nasal spray)
  • Prescription non-nicotine medications, such as bupropion SR (Zyban®)2 and varenicline tartrate (Chantix®) (Champix here in Oz).2,12
  •

The combination of medication and counseling is more effective for smoking cessation than either medication or counseling alone"

Nicotine IS the most addictive substance known to humans, Much more so than heroin etc. One puff after quitting will instantly reignite the urge to smoke again, and for a Ex smoker is a no no, because then you have to go through the "DTs" again to get off that one puff.

All methods work as mentioned, but from experience Champix and Zyban are the best, but as mentioned they have some side effects including Mood changes, Nausea, Vomitting, farts, and wild dreams. Champix is far better tolerated than Zyban.

Hope this helps a bit.

Neels
