Strange behaviour

Mate (milesy) took me out today and to get onto some dhus, spent a lot of the day going to spots that usually produce. Besides coming home empty handed, there was barely anything showing up on the sounder. Covered a lot of ground, and he has a lot of spots that produce good fish, every thing seemed a bit off.
Just curious if anyone has any insight of what could attribute to this? Unless the metro area has just been severely thrashed, still seemed a bit odd. That we couldn't find anything even decent

Yep
That's what Milsey was saying, too much work, for such little result. Just really unsual to see no fish as all on the sounder. I've mostly had experience on the South Coast or up North, so today seeing no fish at all was just a shock I guess.
I study marine biology, and am just extremely interested in what possible factors/variables or correlations can cause all fish to behaviour in a similar fashion. The whole ocean seemed empty, only saw a few birds, although Milsey hooked a salmon at mewstones on our way back, but they were low and spread out in numers, and sticking to the bottom.
Would really like to hear from experienced fishos on their opinons on the matter
Cheers for the reply Gray

Dunno man, I think when it's
Dunno man, I think when it's hot it's hot, when it's not it's not.
Something makes them active tho -some Days more than others.
fish with Gray quiet a bit we go over ground that produces fish some weeks it does some weeks it doesn't
some times fish are high over the ground and no hookups sometimes nothing much showing/ sitting low and get plenty of hook ups and vice versa
tides, winds, currents, sea temps swell the way you shit. All has some factor I think and you gotta be in right place right time

Suggestion currents
just as a suggestion it might pay to have a look at just what the local currents where doing on that day.

Yeah I just am intrigued
If there are certain factors you mentioned and others, when correlated together affects all the fishes instincts and where and why they go? I know demersals move around, but it was really bizzare to me to see almost nothing on the sounder the entire time, over around 8 hours and going out to the 60s. Maybe I am just not used to metro fishing, just seemes like nothing was around today

Do you have a barometer
Do you have a barometer reading yesterday and know if it was falling or rising? I think general consensus is falling barometer and under 1020 usually equals poor fishing

Barrometer
im with beau, been blowing from the north over the past week and that usually equates to a falling barrometer, went out on Sunday and was n/w wind all day and although we got a couple of baldies there was not much on the sounder all day. Also night fished a spot last week that usually produces and apart from some small stuff was very quiet, also n/w wind blowing that night.
My spots are so secret even the fish don't know about them !

Interesting
Guess the key is to just note down conditions every trip and sooner or later a pattern may there. But as others have said, some days just produce nothing, I just am intriueged what factors, or if a major one influences that. Surely can't be a conicidence people had similar experiences from jurien to Mandurah.
Consistent days of N/W winds and and a low barometer makes sense, dermersals especially are effected due to their larger air bladders, so a drop in pressure theoertically makrs them uncomfortable and seek deeper water to stabilise. Suppose it's just natural survival instict and feeding isn't numer one on their prioerty list
Also read pelagics aren't affected as much due to smaller bladders, unless they've been feeding on species which do have them - so they will do the same
Interesting to see what this weekend produces
