Stuck pot ocean reef
Submitted by Paul_86 on Fri, 2013-12-06 11:11
G'day all,
so after the swell last weekend one of my pots looks like it's been dragged into some heavy reef and snagged up. Tried for ages yesterday arvo but no luck getting it free.
So in chasing a diver to help me unstick it. I can either take someone out there on my boat and get them to dive on it, plus dive some near by spots for there chance at some crays, or I can give them the coord's and they do it in there own time. Happy for anyone who is keen to keep any crays in the pot plus a carton.
Let me know if you can help me out. I planning to get back out there Sunday mid morning.
cheers Paul

Forgot to add, the pot
Forgot to add, the pot appears to be stuck on a ledge that goes from 10-5m's deep. Also when there's any swell over about 1 1/2m's the swell picks up a bit in the area, doesn't brake or get close to breaking tho, but may be a little surgy

you may find if you have 20m
you may find if you have 20m of rope in 5-10m of water the rope has actually wrapped around a piece of reef, rather than the pot get stuck.

A small float about a metre
A small float about a metre up from where it's tied to the pot always helps to stop ropes getting snagged.

Yeah I think your rite, the
Yeah I think your rite, the rope didnt have much slack on it so probably tangled up with the reef, but the pot has also moved from original position so not sure if that is caught up or not as well

Yeah it's in fairly heavy reef so hard to see. If its calm enough on the weekend I might jump in and try have a look, but I'm a bit of a pussy when it comes to jumping into open water, after all that is why I pot and don't dive haha.
