Hi everyone. I have got 2 beach rods now but I want to finish off my collection with another combo. I have worked out that I'm going to get the new Assassin Amia H 9ft version. This will be for throwing lures for tailor salmon etc. But I havnt worked what reel I'm going to get. My budget is going to be $350 all up for rod and reel. The rod will coast about $240 I think because that's what the 11ft version costs. I was looking at the Daiwa Aird 5500 for $99. Is that a good reel for about $100?

daiwa emcast super long casting go for about $120 if your surf fishing go the 11 foot not sure what the rod is designed for but if its lure casting I woul look for a small reel than the emcast
I use a daiwa aird 4500 for tailor and its fantastic

Reel
If U planning on using it on the Amia , I assume u going to be throwing lures for tailor / salmon etc ? If so look at the weight of the reel plus the ratio . The above reel is great value for money , but is way to heavy and to slow to cast lures with . $100 is not going to get u anything flash , try pick up a descent 2nd or save up and get a stradic 5000 which will last u a long time if u look after it .

Daiwa Aird range only goes up
Daiwa Aird range only goes up to 4000 size? Great reels for the price though....
I'd try a Plueger Salt 40 or 50...some places are running them out for $115 to make way for a new model.

Yeah the Lethal 100 is quite
Yeah the Lethal 100 is quite heavy and not really suited to chucking lures all day, more of a Mulloway smallish sharks and bait fishing etc

I personally would look at this situation the other way around
I would always have a quality reel on a less quality rod, so my ratio would be the reverse off your. I wouldnt put a $100 reel on a $240 rod. But just my opinion. As mentioned the Stradic 5000 or better but more $$$ Sustain is my surf reels, but also have old model Saragosa's and a Stella on a surf combo, but I think the Stella is to refined to use in sand.
