Swan river Crabs?

Hey guys, anyone been having a go at the crabs in the Swan lately? I've never personally tried for them in the river before but since Cockburn is closed still (correct me if I'm wrong?) I was wondered if it's worth trying the river this weekend otherwise it's a KG hunt in the sound. Any hot tips are also welcome on the swan crabbing, feel free to PM ;)

thanks guys,

Ben.

There are tonnes of little ones, we were there for about 4 hours and only got 1 sized had about 10 pots out and would be getting atleast 2 undersized when each pot it was crazy but i guess thats a good sign for the season.

If I were to start targeting them, Id be havin a go in the deeper water like bw reach or.mozzies, prob work.hard for a feed. Maybe ask how others are going when you see them pullin pots, or observe throgh some binos haha

was a half assed go as we were having a bbq on the shore.
had the same luck as zain with plenty of small ones.
tried where tim-o says above but still a bit early - had a big girl full of eggs but that was it for the size crabs.
always fun trying though, give it a go!

Thanks guys, honestly can't be bothered if it's gonna be hard to get a feed. Would rather chase some squid and kgs for now. I guess it will fire up as it gets warmer and they get bigger hey?

yea there are a few but they arent in huge numbers yet, I took a mate out to have a crack, only spent probably 2hrs crabbing and managed a decent feed with couple of monsters around aswell. like mentioned deeper water is definately more productive unfortunately we had short ropes on all but the two pots in which we caught just about all the size crabs in.

In saying that caught a very respectable bag of squid the other afternoon so whatever you choose to do im sure you will manage a feed.

Had a go yesterday

Had a go yesterday 20/11 . Started at dawn over near point Resolute, due to the 20+ knot winds from the east it wasn't easy pulling the string of nets. We only got one size and 3 small males along the whole deep edge in that area.

As a bonus we saw some birds working near the bank and managed aprox 10 tailor on lures , keeping 4 from 36cm to 38cm .

We moved around to Blackwall reach wear the wind was a bit more pleasant but still only managed a few small crabs. I suppose the full moon didn't help much, lets hope in a couple weeks they might start moving around.

Was still better than going to work, it was the first time i didnt have to work on my birthday for nearly ten years .

Cheers Grant ..

Happy Birthday Grant .. be a good workout pulling near Blackwall , apparently incoming tide at the change of light increases productivity therefore dusk might've been better but we can't always await optimum conditions . Good to get some good size tailor between pulls as well , great fun might get the kids out this weekend .

Thanks Chris, yeah the tailor were working on white bait around the edge of Karrakatta bank. When the birds were on them they hit our lures straight away, then they spread out so we trolled aroud the bank until we found them again. I was impressed with the size of some of them and on 4lb gear they were fun to catch .
