Switching trebles to singles on lures?

 Hi all

Fella at the tackle shop tells me its preferable to switch treble hooks to single hooks on lures, apparently better chances of hook ups?

1 - do most of ya'll do this?

2 - if so, what type/size hook would I change my Halco 190DD's to?

I've changed a few of mine to Mustad Hoodlums, they hook up nicely.

Put a vmc inline single #7266 size 7/0 , or a Decoy Jigging single 7/0 , excellent hook up rate on a Halco Laser Pro 190DD. Put middle hook point facing down and rear hook point facing up , can increase the trolling speed by a knot or two , Handy when trolling for Wahoo..Good Luck

Also a big win if you intend to release anything make a lot less mess---and just easier to unhook in general.

Haven't been using...

...my Halco/Rapala trollers enough lately to justify the effort/expense to change them over, but have done it with my little whiting and tailor lures and haven't looked back. Hookup to landing ratio is better, and less likelihood of harm to myself and/or fish.

Halcos in particular have a nasty habit of jumping out of the water at the end of the retrieve so your chances of copping one are reduced by two-thirds!
