Tackle HQ Jigging Day Report
Hey all
Well yesterday was the first of many Jigging Tutorial days to come, with weather so good you could not even wish for a day as calm. The fishing on the other hand was very hard and made all who came along work hard for the fish they caught, which was probably a good thing to make the jiggers work harder. The first few hours were quite with a few small sambos coming over the side and a handful of small snapper. It wasn't till later in the day when we moved out to deeper water when the fish began to come on the bite. We were also lucky enough to have a prize kindly donated by Tackle HQ for whoever caught the biggest dhuie for the day, that prize went to Paul Gordon who managed to land two dhuies in a very short time frame. Congrats Paul and hope you like the rod. There was plenty of pinkies out wide along with a few baldchin that were all more than willing to eat some nice flashy jigs. There was quite a few times with multiple sambo hookups which was very entertaing watching everybody run around the boat.
We hope all had a great day with trying conditions but we still managed to catch our limit thanks to Whiteys great skippering and valuable knowledge. If you want to come along to one of our Tackle HQ Jigging tutorial days give us a call or drop me an email and we can get you hooked on jigging!
A big thanks to whitey for taking us out and to everyone who came along!

picture 2 i think is a Daiwa demon blood i think
and i know for sure the pic 7 is a hearty rise jigforce PE 1.5-3 with a stella 5000SW which put a great show on stopping a 35kg or so sambo on PE3.
Great day thanks to Whitey and Luke, I recommend getting along to a tutorial day in future.

Whats a general guide to jig
Whats a general guide to jig weight to depth of fishing..
I know drift speed and currents play a factor but can you fish to heavy with jigs?

This is a big preference
This is a big preference thing in my opinion, and also will depend a lot on what you are fishing for.
I dont profess to be an expert, but generally the lightest jig I will use is 100gr, or more like 180gr if targetting bigger dhuies, even in shallow water.
From the few trips I've done with Whitey I notice he also seems to favour significantly larger jigs than a lot of the other guys on the boat.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

I'v spoken to whitey about
I'v spoken to whitey about this and he regularly uses 300g Mejiyumes in shallow water and reckons he catchs bigger fish.

And another question
from a newbie jigger. I have a Stella 5000 with PE3 line. When chasing demersals how many kilos of drag should I set the reel up with?

chookc- on good conditions i would use the follwoing as a rough guide, it really comes down to feel. You want to fish as light of a lure as possible for the conditions
30mt 60-70g
40mt 80-100g
50mt 100-120
60mt 120-150 and so on
Alan I try to fish with a drag tight enough so as whilst im jigging no line will come off the spool. Also when you first hookup line shouldnt come off the spool only when the fish takes drag. It comes down to feel and you just need to catch a few fish to work it out, its a feel thing.

Do those jigs come with the squid teaser already attached or do you have to add them on to the jig that you want to use?
