Tackle Rebate
Submitted by stevo58 on Sat, 2026-06-27 11:53
Anyone else tried to claim the $50 Tackle rebate offered at the moment available to all RFBL holders ( Rec fishing from Boat licence holders) Its a scheme to help the local tackle shops with the reduced sales due to the ban. Basically you spend $ 50 in a tackle shop that is part of the scheme then you can claim the money back via the ServiceWA app....... and this is where the fun starts. I wasn't aware I was so computer illiterate. Eventually got there to lodge the claim....after about 2 hours. Great system.

Bit like the apprentice
Bit like the apprentice incentive schemes, hoop upon hoop to jump through. The federal government one is so bad I gave up, even my apprentice support officer agreed it was ridiculous.
They absolutely do this on purpose.

WA Gov Portals
The WA Firearms registration portal was no different. At a cost of $35M of taxpayers' money it was a disaster. That $35M would have been better spent focusing on policing the criminal sector rather than disarming the responsible firearm owners under the guise of 'WE ARE KEEPING YOU SAFE'.
Sadly, the next WA election is a little under two years away. Having said that the Libs are a basket case, One Nation ............ could they do any worse?

Why does it have to end this
Why does it have to end this year, take it right up to when the demersal season is supposedly meant to open next year.

As I understand it Andy the rebate is also limited to the first 66,000 claims. That equates to a max. Gov outlay of $3.3M. Considering the Gov. receives in the order of $24M per annum from the recreational sector via fishing license revenue the $3.3M appears somewhat disingenuous imo.

ServiceWA App
Today I happened to have a face-to-face meeting with the Customer Services Manager of a bank I have some investments with. She's probably 30+ish years old so I would expect her digital / computer skills are sound. I mentioned the ServiceWA App and her eyes rolled back. Only last week she said she had attempted to get her parents registered with ServiceWA App so they could apply for the fuel rebate. Hours later she gave up, too hard. Hard copy applications will follow.

Had a good look at the hard copy application yesterday and won't be wasting my time with that either with the bullshit you have to submit with it.
Dealing with Telstra this week was another experience I am glad only happens once in a blue moon.

Rung them up and they have submitted a ticket, that was over a week ago.

As we only run 1 email
As we only run 1 email account the wife used it to do her thing registering during covid, so now I can't use it to set mine up and don't see why I should have to stuff around opening another one. Cooky can use mine to wipe his chin next time he opens his mouth.

A little of topic
but some may find it interesting.
My email service provider of some 27+ years closed its doors October 2025. I was given some months warning so it provided me with time to set up a new email address with another company. That part was easy, thankyou Google. I identified 33 businesses and information related organizations / companies that I communicate with reasonably regularly, so I set about logging in to their systems and updating my contact details. Sounds easy and the majority were. Others not so and a few remain unresolved to this day.
I have no issues with voting with my feet and as a result of the above exercise my SMSF no longer has investment accounts with Macquarie Bank. I have a new health insurance provider and I have not renewed four insurance policies I had with Budget Direct. Also, my computer security provider AVG will discover in May 2027 that the credit card details they have are no longer current.

Tackle rebate
This is for the tackle shops who will be doing it tough due to the bans, so I think we should support them by buying some gear and claiming it. I bought a couple of items and claimed through the alternative method about a week ago. The money landed in my account yesterday. Its a bit of a hasle because you have to include some ID with the claim, but I tried the service WA and my ID method and got nowhere with it. Also got nowhere with the $100 fuel payment, so I used the paper method and posted it, I havent received payment for that one, but they did say it woulkd be 8 weeks.
With the tackle claim, make sure the shop is on the approved list, they have to be dedicated tackle shops, not camping /fishing/boating etc. also ask for a full receipt.
