Tailor Size
Submitted by downflyer on Sun, 2010-10-03 15:43
Seen some many chopper caught lately, in Swan or off beach, they were all too small, around 25cm, just wondering why legal size is 30 since so many undersized wandering around. saw some guys throwing twristy at Narrows last night and got and keep some undersized as well. i got sized bream easily but seldomly got tialor over 30cm. never seen anyone releasing back undersize tailor. fisheries treat bream differently from tailor? as i saw some guy fined a grand by Swan for keeping 23cm bream. but never saw tailor breacher getting caught.

I believe the size limits
I believe the size limits are usually relative to the fish reaching sexual maturity and being able to reproduce (thus ensuring survival of the species).
So those 25cm fish have not yet been able to do their bit to ensure the species continues to thrive.
As for Fisheries - I'm sure if they catch someone in the act of taking any undersize fish they will act accordingly.

Since the swan is actually a breeding ground, you will rarely get "size" tailor. Once they reach sexual maturity they reproduce and head out to sea. If you want size tailor, fish the ocean. I rarely get undersize tailor off the beach.

as far as i am aware the fisheries come down harder on those that catch small bream as they are a much slower growing fish. it takes many years to reach maturity for bream where as tailor are a much faster growing fish. even still , i dont condone taking u/size fish of any kind
