Theft From Boats

Theft from boats seems to be on the rise.

Mate of mine found that his boat had been disturbed outside his house at the weekend, but nothing appeared to be missing...

Eventually discovered that his flares had gone - this sort of thing could potentially be life threatening........

Wondering what others have done to secure their boats? My boat has an alarm fitted - and most things are removed or secured to boat.

i live 8 k's from Dunsborough up in a rural residential area and now for the first time in 5 years have to lock the gate during the day. A few weeks ago i noticed someone had been ripping along my fire break which circles the block - big skid marks up the rise on one boundary where i park the boat. Spoke to the neighbours and one had seen the same white Landcruiser ute enter the block and park next to the boat on 2 differnt days but paid no attention assuming it was me. Nothing taken as it's all locked in the shed but i assume they were after the outboard - which in my case is 75% of the value of outfit. Scumbags.

Yep the problems on the rise , i have heard plenty in my area of boat gear ripped off, mainly kids chasing the flares for night time fun, i make a big effort to remove flares and especially the EPIRB, last year some low lifes found my spare boat key and decided to run the motor with out the water muffs , hence new motor. boat owner beware !

Xmas's ago, never in the 15yrs I've been going to Leeman we had to remove or lock anything in the boat, but unfortunately yes we were hit, Bob's 20yr old tackle box taken and his 25kg game rod.  It wasn't so much the old tackle box that was stolen, but 20yrs of gear, things Bobs father had or given him,  we never saw either ever again, but apparently they caught the little sh%$#@ts and all were charged.  Apparently they also were taking grog out of eskys, food & petrol while people where out fishing from their camp sites in the Caravan Park.  It certainly leaves a sour taste in your mouth for the so called youth of the day and one of the youth's, his father was a pro fisherman, money wasn't the problem, just the thrill.

What I would give to catch any young punks going through my gear. Trouble is these days if they get caught stealing stuff all they get is a slap on the wrist. Yet if we catch them and give them a clip across the ears we get in a load of shit.
